The Safest Ways To Start Taking Cannabis Medicine

Sheri Caplan Stalino explains how to safely begin cannabis medicine: start at about a quarter of your target dose, increase by small amounts every one or two days, and stick to your doctor's schedule. Everyone metabolizes cannabinoids differently, so what works for someone else won't work for you.

Are you confused about how to start taking your cannabis medicine? I'm Sheri Caplan Stalino. I'm the founder of Connected Wellness. So this is a great question. And some of our patients come to us because they're not instructed properly about how to start taking the medicine. And if you start taking the medicine and you have a bad reaction, a lot of people won't ever go back to try doing it the right way. So. So let me tell you first and foremost, one of the safest ways to begin taking cannabis medicine is to start low and go slow. That means if your optimal dose is 10mg, you still wanna start out at like 2.5mg, see how your body adapts to it. And then you're gonna slowly increase it by 2.5 milligrams, giving yourself about a day or two to get used and then moving up to the dosage that your doctor has prescribed. So if nobody's instructed you how to take it, start low and go slow. Now, why is this important? So the first reason I just mentioned, because everyone's body responds differently. And the next reason is you and your doctor need to be evaluating how does the medicine interact with maybe some of the other conventional medicines you might have. And if you're not on conventional medicines, in addition to that, you would still want to see how your body metabolizes the cannabinoids in the cannabis. You also, you know, everyone's body is different, so we produce our own cannabinoids. Your body needs to metabolize the cannabinoids that you're taking, and then everyone has different amount of enzymes that break down the cannabinoids. And everyone has different, or what I mean to say is the health of your receptor site is different. And in some videos, videos that we're going to be sharing with you to come, we're going to talk about how do you take care of the health of your receptor sites. Now, remember, plants are not like synthetic medication. Consistency is key to the progress of your medicine. Let's go over this. If your doctor recommends that you take your medicine three times a day and you only take it twice a day, is the medicine going to work for you the way that your physician intended for? Probably not. If your physician recommends that you put a topical on the area that you have injured or hurting, and he says, or she says, do it three times a day and you do it once a day, is it gonna work as effectively as the doctor intends? Probably not. So those are some important questions that people come to us with where they say, well, I took it twice a day, I didn't want to take it three times a day. Or I applied the topical once a day. It worked for a few hours. To which I say, of course it did. These are not synthetic medications. They need to be reapplied. They need to be used several times throughout the day. So listen to your physicians when they tell you how frequently you want to be using the medicine. Now, repetition is key to the success of your medicine and you want to be successful as guided by your physician.
