Behind The Scenes Of The Blue Cow Marketing Office

In this informal vlog, Shaun Whynacht walks viewers through a typical day as the founder of Blue Cow Marketing. He begins with his morning routine of dropping his son Cameron at daycare and grabbing coffee from a drive‑through, then returns to his home‑based office. Shaun gives a detailed tour of the office space, highlighting the video and audio production gear, a flexible open‑concept layout, a standing desk with multiple monitors, and a DIY brick background for filming. He explains how the workspace supports both client work and content creation. Shaun also shares his personal creative break—a temporary DJ station he set up to recharge. The video emphasizes the agency’s fully remote team, naming members in Montana, Halifax, and Calgary, and describes how freelancers are treated as integral team members. He concludes with a call to action, inviting viewers to contact him via comments, Facebook, Twitter (@ShaunWhynacht), or the company website (BlueCowMarketing.ca).

Hey everyone, it's Shaun with Blue Cow Marketing. Oh wait, you can't see me. Hold on, let me turn these lights on. One. Ooh, very dramatic. Two. Nice and balanced. We need something in the back. Let's turn that on. Okay, now we're ready to get started. I want to do a quick video here and kind of take you behind the scenes of Blue Cow Marketing and what we've built here as an office and how a typical day goes with the work that I do. Now, I don't have a film crew following me around like a Gary Vaynerchuk or anything like that. Basically, I've grabbed my phone this morning and kind of recorded a couple things that I do in the morning, and then I take you on a tour here of this office. Now, obviously I'm in my studio location in my office right now shooting this, but we're going to be a little more casual when I show you the clips here. So I won't ramble on any longer. Let's just go right to the, the clips that I shot here this morning to show you what goes on here at Blue Cow Marketing. So one of the things that I get to do almost every day, which is an awesome part of the entrepreneur lifestyle, is I get to take this guy to daycare every morning, except when I'm out of town. But that's rarely the case. But most times I get to take him and we have a great morning drive. And one of our routines is stopping here at the local McDonald's drive-thru to get a morning coffee. And then we head up to daycare. Hit back to the office and we get started on the day. So I will see you back at the office in a few minutes. So, uh, as you saw, we were just at the drive-through. I dropped Cameron off at daycare and now I'm back here at home, uh, about to go into our home office. So I wanted to give you the tour. Now I'm just using a selfie stick here, uh, to do this. Might be a little shaky, but bear with me. I just want to show you what's going on. Now I didn't spend much time tidying things up, uh, to do this because in reality this is what life is about. I mean, things aren't always polished. So yeah, let me show you first here. So this building here, this is the Blue Cow headquarters. This is where we do everything for our clients and for ourselves in here. Now, prior to building this, I was working in my basement of my house over there, and then I moved to an actual commercial office, and then the person I had to deal with, they closed their business. So obviously I had to move somewhere. So I built this office right here. So let's go ahead and we'll go inside. And, uh, we'll take a look around. All right, pretty cool. How many people other than clients have been in here? Okay, uh, it's not huge, um, but we'll show you here. Uh, this is it right here. Uh, there's a lot going on in here, um, so let's just take a look. We come in, we've got our gear section. This is where all our video equipment, our audio equipment is for all of our productions. Um, got a couch here when clients are in, uh, where we're doing any video shoots, just a little resting area where you want to step away from doing work at the computer, this is a great spot to do that. Come over here, and also when I designed this, I wanted a big open concept so I could multi-purpose it, use it for different things, and it's transitioned over the years. I mean, we've had this, this office space for 3 years now, and the layout has changed probably a dozen times. It just depends on probably the feeling that I'm in at that time of the year or what we're doing in here. So this This area here, just shot a video this morning, so it allows me to shoot against a gray wall. I got some lighting, some stools here, the camera, there we go over there, and then this little brick thing over here, I got this at Home Depot for $40. It's a piece of wood, got a little brick background. I can put that behind me. I can shoot, get a different background, so that makes it really helpful to do that. Okay, then we've got over here, It's got a different workstation set up. I got my MacBook Pro, large wide monitor, just a desk, right? This is more of my campaign building, my bookkeeping, all that kind of stuff where I just want a different type of atmosphere to sit down. Then over here, we've got the lovely stand-up desk, 3 monitors. We got a Mac, an iMac, and then 2 monitors off of that. We've got our microphone for doing all of our tutorials. And it's just, if you want to know, it's just a Blue USB microphone. And I got this lovely little stand here that I got on Amazon, and then obviously a pop filter. Now if you've watched any of the videos I've done on doing recording and your podcast, pop filter costs about $10. Probably the best investment you'll ever have when it comes to audio. So what I love about this desk is it is not one of those super fancy, standing desks that are motorized. You gotta actually put some labor in here and crank it up and down. But it allows me to stand and do work, and then if I need to sit down, I can either go over there or I can crank this down. If I'm spending some long hours doing some web content and things like that, standing's not always the best way to do it, so I do crank it down every now and then and sit down. Now, here's the last thing that I wanna show you here in the office, is what do I do when I just need a break, right? Obviously I could sit on that sofa over there, but for me to be creative, I have to go back to my roots and something that I'm really passionate about. My first business, if you haven't watched the story on this yet, but my first business at the age of 17 was as a DJ, and I did that for 7 years, and I still have a passion for it. I don't go out and I do any DJing, but I still love playing the music, beat mixing, all that kind of stuff. And I had some gear kicking around, some speakers and things, so I actually set up a DJ station right here. It's just temporary, right? I've been doing this for a couple, probably about a week and a half now, from the time of shooting this video, that I just set this up. And when I'm just in a project and I need that break to step away from it, I come over here, I turn the speakers on, I get some music going, I beat mix, I mix, I play with it. It's almost like a big rave and a party in here. I do about 10, 15 minutes of that, turn it off, go back to work. And this has been a fine, not a fine, but a fantastic break from the work that I do. So this is it. I mean, we're not a huge headquarters. We're not a high-rise building. We don't have a huge team here because our team is remote, right? We've got Nikki in Montana, we've got Anthony in Halifax, we got Sarah in Calgary. You know what, people are spread out all over, and then if there's special projects that come along, then we bring in special team members for that. So that's one of the things that I love about the work that we do at Blue Cow Marketing is we are all about collaboration, we're all about having fun, and that whole being able to work from home philosophy. From actually just thinking about our team, I think everybody works from home. I never really thought of it on that level, but everybody works from home, and it allows me to do things like you saw previously, take my son to daycare. I'll be able to pick him up. And when my stepdaughter goes to school, I drive her to school in the morning, pick her up at the end of the day. But it's just a great balance, and that is what I absolutely love about being an entrepreneur. So that's it. That's exactly what my day, my typical day, looks like. Going to daycare, getting our coffee, coming back to the office, and then we're crushing it with our clients' projects. And like, we collaborate. We've got our freelancers that are out there are team members. I hate the word freelancers because they are team members. They are an integral part of our team and they help us create projects that you, our clients, absolutely love to grow your business.
