Little Gems Early Learning Childcare Centre is a centre that is focused on early education through the emergent curriculum, which is play-based learning, as well as a zoophonics program, which is school readiness. Zoophonics teaches whole body learning so that all children of all ages are able to grasp the concepts. I decided to start my own business because I had life-changing events and I was given an opportunity to go back to school Immediately I knew that I wanted to do early childhood education, and each day that I drove by to go to school originally, I knew in my mind that I was going to have this building and it would become my centre. CBDC provided self-employment benefit programs, the SEED program, as well as a loan to get us started. We purchased the building, the materials and supplies, and did the renovations. CBDC gave me a confidence throughout the whole process. I was never worried that I wouldn't be successful because I knew that they had my support. They helped me with every little thing that I needed guidance on. If they weren't able to give me the guidance, they directed me in areas that could give me the guidance that I needed, and today we are very successful. The greatest reward to owning my own business personally is every day I know that I work with families and children to give them the highest quality childcare. It just makes me proud.
