My name is Derek Hayden. I am a therapist and owner-operator of Central Laser Therapy in Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland. Central Laser Therapy is a multidisciplinary therapy clinic. All therapies are geared towards pain, injury, and arthritis. Laser therapy is offered. It's a low-level laser therapy, Class 3B. There's no pain to it or anything like that. There's registered acupuncture services, there's massage therapy services, and they all integrate together to form single treatment protocols. Well, the CBDC allowed us to secure funding to expand. They allowed a business loan for us to purchase more equipment, make a move into a bigger workspace, and also provided help in business decisions, things like that, just to support nature as well. But the main service was the business loan and the ability to to get money into making a move like that and creating a bigger clinic. As a therapist, there's challenges every day. From a business point of view, one of the biggest challenges is making sure that your priorities as a therapist and your priorities as a business owner doesn't conflict, or they have to coexist, and that can be a challenge. The successes I've had in Central Laser Therapy have been quadrupling patient capacity, tripling patient numbers, and more than doubling revenue in about 3 years. Basically, I've always allowed I want the clinic to dictate its own growth. Should there be a need for further growth, I would probably expand existing clinic features and spaces or a second location.
