GoDaddy Delegate Access: Grant Domain Control Without Losing Security

Shaun Whynacht shows how to grant GoDaddy domain access to developers or advisors while keeping your account secure. Use Account Settings > Delegate Access to invite them by email, choose one of three permission levels, and revoke access anytime. Purchase permissions don't expose your credit card.

I know these days that being secure in all your systems and your accounts is extremely important to you. So whether you're a financial advisor or a professional speaker or any business owner, this is going to be absolutely crucial to you. Now, if you're working with any type of web developer or system provider, they may ask you for access to where your domains are housed. Now, if you're using GoDaddy, I'm going to show you in this video a feature that most people don't know is there where you can grant access, but keep control so that you don't get locked out. It's called delegate access. Let's hop on the computer and take a look. Now, before I hop into this, I want to preface that in no way am I being financially compensated by GoDaddy for this video. I just like GoDaddy because of this feature, and this is where I host all of my domains and any client domains I recommend they use GoDaddy as well, just for this. Now, as I mentioned, keeping your account secure is absolutely important, and you never want to give away your login access for your place where your domains are housed, because if that gets in the wrong hands, you can get locked out, your domains can get transferred, and then you know what, your online presence is pretty much gone. So let's take a look at this. I'm logged into my GoDaddy account. Now I'm going to go to the top right-hand side of the account, and I'm going to go down to account settings. Once I get to account settings, on the left-hand side, I'm going to find something called delegate access. So what this means is you can delegate access to your account. Now, as we see here, they've got two-factor authentication. So I'm just going to get that code here from my phone. We'll put that in there. So in the delegate access section, there's two sides. On the left-hand side, it's accounts that I can access. So as a tech professional, web developer, designer, I get access to different clients' accounts, and they grant this access to me. So as we see here, these are all the different client accounts as I scroll down. And And if I clicked Access Now, it'll actually log into their account as them, but it doesn't give me access to put other people on there or change any of the billing information. So all that you keep control of. Now on the right-hand side, this is the part that's going to be important to you. This is where people who can access your account, this is where you grant access to those service providers. So in order to do that, you're going to go Invite to Access. You're going to put in their name. And their email address, and they're going to receive that invite. Here's the key: this email address must be the email address that is set up with their GoDaddy account. So in our case, we use the one that we have logged in to our GoDaddy account. So when we receive it, it'll automatically go in and we can accept that access. And also, you can revoke that access, which is going to be key. Now, there's 3 different levels in here., that you can choose. There's domains only. So if they're only needing to access your domain, they may say, hey, you know what, I need to set up some what are called DNS records on your domain. That would now mean that they need access to the domain only. Your products and your domains would be if you have some hosting or any other GoDaddy products in here, they can also access those. And the highest level would be products, domains, and purchase, which allows them to purchase other products using the credit card stored on the profile. This does does not mean that they can access your credit card information. It just simply means that they can only go and purchase something. So if you're working with somebody that you really trust and you say, hey, let's grab another domain, and they have delegate access, they can go in and make those purchases and then you don't have to. So it's as simple as that. You put in the name, email address, choose the access you want, and click invite.
