In this tutorial Shaun Whynacht walks viewers through the process of adding subtitles to Facebook video ads. He recommends using an external service, Rev.com, instead of Facebook’s auto‑generated captions because Rev provides a 100 % accurate, Facebook‑ready SubRip (.srt) file for about $5 and a turnaround of a few hours. The video shows how to upload the original ad video to Rev, download the .srt file, and then, within Facebook Ads Manager, edit the video creative, access the Captions section, upload the .srt, select the language, and save. Shaun notes that the captions UI may appear frozen briefly while loading. After uploading, the subtitles process and overlay on the video once ready. He explains why subtitles matter: many users watch videos on mute in the newsfeed, so readable captions increase the chance they engage with the ad. He asserts that adding subtitles boosts engagement, video views, and conversion goals.

Hey, in this video we're going to be looking at how do you add in subtitles to your video ads. So this is really quite easy. Now you could go ahead and use the Facebook auto-generated one, but I'm going to strongly suggest that you look at an outside service to do that. The one that we recommend and the one that I'm going to show you here is called Rev.com. So as you can see here, this video we had uploaded to Rev.com and they generated English subtitles based on the video. It took about 2 hours, 3 hours based on this video., for us to get this back, but we got the exact Facebook file that we need and they are 100% accurate and it only costs us about $5 to get this one done. Uh, and it is, as you can see here, 3 minutes long in length. So once it's done, it comes back, you're asked to download, and what you're going to want to get is called a Facebook-ready SubRip file. So it's a.srt file and that's the one in which you'll download. And I already did that. So let's hop on back over here to our Ads Manager. Now I already Uploaded the video to Facebook and sent it through the approval process. So when I come back into the video, what I wanna do is I wanna go back to where you see the ad creative and we wanna go ahead and go edit video. Not change video, but edit video. And when this pops up, we're then gonna look at the captions section and be aware that when you click on this, this is gonna look like it's kind of frozen, it's just spinning. This is a common occurrence, so just let it wait. It takes a few seconds for it to actually load to this. So one of the benefits of having the subtitles is, as you know, when videos are running through Facebook in the newsfeed, they are pre-rolling and they are running, but there's no audio that's there. A lot of people actually don't ever click on it to listen to the audio. They initially start to read the subtitles to see if it is something that they want to check out. So it is extremely important to do that. Now, as you see here, this has popped up and it says upload your SRT files. So we're going to click on this and we're going to select the file that we just downloaded from Rev. And we're going to go find that from our downloads here. Let's just look for today. There it is. We're going to click upload and we're going to choose English and we're going to click save. Now those are uploaded and hit save. And just like that, that is there and ready to go. So I'm going to go back here and I'm going to preview the video. I'm going to look for it in a Facebook post with comments. And what we'll do is see here, I don't think they're going to generate right away, but they will show up over the text of the video that's down here below once they finish processing. So it's as simple as that, uploading the video. And I'm just gonna see, I don't think that's the one I got to publish. No, that's a different one there. And make sure that you upload it. It still says processing here, so that's why the subtitles aren't showing up there. But once they do, they will automatically overlay. And like I said, Rev.com is 100% accurate with the subtitling versus the auto-generated one that you will get with Facebook on there. And I guarantee you will increase the conversion, the engagement, the the video views, whatever it is that you want the goal to be with those videos that you're putting on your ads if you include those subtitles.
