How to Verify Your Domain With Facebook

Shaun Whynacht shows how to verify a domain in Facebook Business Manager and set up Aggregated Event Measurement for iOS 14 compliance. He walks through three verification methods, demonstrates adding a meta tag to a WordPress site, then configures up to eight web events in Events Manager. Without this setup, existing campaigns get paused and may lose 72 hours of performance.

Hey guys, in this video we're gonna be talking about how to verify your domain with Facebook. This is extremely important with the new changes coming with iOS 14, and Facebook is requiring you to have your domains verified. So what are we gonna do? Well, we have to go into Business Manager. So if you don't have Business Manager for your business, you can go to business.facebook.com and you can get access to that and sign up for it. It is completely free. You just attach your business page and then you'll get access, you know, the ability to do this type of stuff that you're going to see in this video. So let's hop right into it. Here we are in my business manager settings and under brand safety, we drop that down. We've got an option for domains and that's where all the domains are that you would own and be able to control. So as we see here, I already have my Blue Cow Marketing verified, but I have a secondary domain called my marketing mentor that I'm going to be running ads for. So I need to verify that. So we're going to click on domains. And then we're going to click on this lovely blue, beautiful shade of blue button up here. We're going to click Add. We're going to put in the domain. So mymarketingmentor.ca. We're going to click Add. Now, the other thing to know is make sure that the domain you're trying to verify is not already verified by another Business Manager account. This, I come into seeing this, you know, several times when businesses have multiple employees working on their accounts over the years and it had been verified by somebody else. So Once we go in here, now it's going to give us the steps to verify, and we've got several different ways. There's the meta tag verification, which means we just need to be able to log into the site and put this little snippet of code in the header of the site. We can go with an HTML file upload, so we can download this file and we can upload it to the hosting. Or if you've got domain-level access, you can go into the DNS and put in a TXT record. So I'm going to show you the probably easiest one that most people would have access to if you've got like a WordPress site or any site that has a, a content management system. So I'm going to highlight this, I'm going to go ahead and copy it. Now over here in this other tab, I'm just going to log into my WordPress site. And now that I'm in here, um, that my site is built on Thrive. So it's going to be different in the different builders that you might have. You have Divi, Elementor, um, but the The main point is you're going to find where you put in scripts like header scripts like Google Analytics or things like that, because this needs to go in the header of the site. So with Thrive, we're going to go in and look at the Thrive dashboard, and they make it extremely easy here. And I'll show you after I put this one in where there's another common place you might be able to put it in. So here we can go and click Add, and we're just going to paste it in there, and we can say Facebook trick. Well, it already picks it up here, and we're going to put it in the header. And we want it to be on the Thrive Themes and the landing pages, and we're going to click continue. So we're just going to save that there, and it should be added to the page. And now what we're going to do is we're just going to jump back over here, I'm going to click verify, and we'll see what happens. Okay, so it may take a minute or two for it to verify. We're just going to wait here, and it might not pick it up. So I didn't test this beforehand,, and sometimes the Thrive Editor won't pick up those type of things. So what I'm also going to do is I'm going to show you another spot you could put it, and we're going to override this in here. So we're going here and we're going to go into Theme Editor. Then the Theme Editor, you got your, your, all your files, you got this little pop-up, don't worry about that. Uh, we're going to look for this header.php file on the right-hand side. And that's going to give us the header for the page. And then right here we've got this closed bracket header spot. We're just going to hit enter and we're going to paste that bad boy in there. We're going to click update file. This is file successfully updated. Now we're going to come back over here, we're going to click verify and see if that picked up on it. There we go. So that verified. So we have figured out that the Thrive one isn't going to be picked up by Facebook. So that option of putting it in the actual Theme Editor is more reliable than using the one for, for your page. So now it's verified, which means that I could go ahead and start to build out different elements for my ad campaigns. Now I'm going to hop on over here to the Events Manager, and this is really going to show us where our pixel is located. Now I have created a pixel for this account already. So let me just go in here and then click on My Marketing Mentor, which is this one here. And what we're gonna see here is we've got, you know, some other events that are coming through. So with these iOS changes, what you need to do is you need to go into this Aggregated Event Measurement tab, and we need to configure the web events. Before, you were able to have multiple different web events and conversion goals and everything. Now it's broken down that you need to have 8, okay? Once we're going to go in here, we're going to go and pick the domain that we just verified right here. And I have no assigned events. So we can have up to 8 now with the new change. And it is extremely important that you do this before those changes take effect because it's going to impact your ability to run ads. And if you've got current ads running that are set up on old events, those will be paused and your ad campaigns will stop. So we're going to go in here, we're going to click on the domain we just verified and click manage. We're going to click edit, and now we can go ahead and add those events. So highest priority, what is the highest priority? Um, and what we got in here is we're going to pick the pixel and we're going to choose the events. Now these are all the events that are in there that we can choose from. So I'm going to go ahead and pick view content. That is the most common one you'll see. Uh, and that is anytime somebody comes to your page, you want that pixel to fire for viewing content so you can retarget them on that. So we're going to do that one. We're going to click Add Events. We're going to pick the other one here. And we're going to go through and just pick— now based on your business is going to determine what it is. Now we're doing, you know, marketing services. So, you know, we will have events for registrations. We will have events for— let's just see what else we got in here. Um, subscribing. We do have— where are we? Go back here. We do have, um, Contact Us. And you don't have to do all 8. I'm just going to pick one more in here. Uh, and we don't do Add to Cart. We don't have e-commerce on our site. Customize Product, Donate, Find Location, Initiate Checkout. Uh, Lead is another common one, so I'm going to do that. I'm going to hit Submit. Now what it's going to do is going to come up and it's going to say your ability to make changes without any impact as campaigns will will end once Apple enforces this. Okay, so once they enforce it, there will be 72 hours where your ads may not run. So if you don't do this ahead of time before they enforce it and you have active campaigns that are running and you go and change this, your ads could be down for 72 hours. So extremely important that you go ahead and do this for your entities. We're going to click Apply, and there we go. Everything is set up. So that's what we covered in this video is how to verify your domains and set up your web events. If you like this video, please subscribe to my YouTube channel here.
