Shaun Whynacht explains why business owners can't separate their personal life from their brand: there's no off switch on the spotlight. Posting about binge-drinking or drama on social media damages your credibility and your business's integrity, while charity work builds it.

Hey guys, it's Shaun Whynacht here. Another check-in here in Arizona just before I head down to register for the conference and pick up all the details about what's going on. But this morning while I was actually ironing my clothes— I know, it's crazy, ironing my clothes is something I don't normally do, but you know when you're on a trip and that kind of stuff, your clothes get really wrinkled. But we're not here for a clothing lesson. I just want to tell you about something I heard on the TV this morning while I was getting ready, and it was a line that says, There's never an off switch on the spotlight. And what that really means, the way I interpreted that, and I wanted to tell you about this, is we spend a lot of time in our business when we go and we market ourselves. And even if you're not aware of that, the fact that your personal image, what you do outside of your store, whether it's a brick-and-mortar type business or whatever it is, what you're doing in your personal life people will start to see that as a reflection on your business. So you need to be aware of the things that you're doing. So being involved in charity and community is a great thing to do, but if you're going out every weekend, you're getting smashed, don't put that stuff online. Don't put those things on Facebook. Don't be very dramatic and post every little problem you have, because that right there is going to reflect the way people see you as a business person, number one, and two, about the credibility and the integrity of doing business with you. You and your company. So again, there's never an off switch on the spotlight. Keep that in mind. Be conscious of what you do. So anyway, I'm gonna head down, get some breakfast, register for this great conference, and I'm gonna have a couple more updates coming to you later on today. Alright, take care. See you later.
