Scripts Suck - Stop Wasting Your Time

Shaun Whynacht argues that full scripts make videos feel stiff and kill connection with viewers. Instead, write three bullet points on a sticky note, state your specific problem in the first 5-8 seconds, and speak naturally off those prompts. You'll sound more authentic and won't burn mental energy tracking lines.

So you need to create a video, and I'm here to tell you one important fact: scripts suck. Give up. Do not write a script for your video. Now, that might seem a little bit harsh, but the reason for that is unless you are a seasoned professional and you've been doing video for years and you've been trained on delivering scripts, it's going to seem rigid. It's not going to connect with your audience. Focus on what is that single thing that you can answer? What is that single pain point that you can help relieve? What is that single problem that you can solve in that video? What is it? Tell them that in the first 5 to 8 seconds. Do you struggle with this? If so, we're going to figure out how to do that in today's video. Whatever it is, you know it in your business. And then take that topic and can you break it down in 3 bullet points? If you can, write them on a sticky note, stick them on your screen, stick them on your desk, heck, stick it on your dog under the desk, I don't care. But don't write a script. Scripts are the number one thing that I see my clients stress about every single time it comes to creating a video. Not only do they not know what to say, do they not know how to write the script, but when it comes time to record, their brain's thinking, what's next in the script? Am I saying it the way that I wrote it? They don't come across naturally. So take the idea of what you want to do in your video What is the single point of focus in that video? And how do we get there in 3 points? And can you talk on those points if you just saw that bullet point? Right? If you can, do it. Right? Like I said, stick it on the screen. Right? It's okay to break eye contact with the camera. If you're thinking, right, it's like, hey, here's topic number 1. Right? You're thinking, you're looking down, you're looking up. But stop scripting. That's my point for you in this video. Throw those scripts away. They're not going to do you any good. So if you like that, if you got a comment about it, heck, you know, if you just disagree with me, I don't care. Write it in the comments below this video. I'll answer them, right? I'll give you my best advice. But the biggest thing that I've found is, you know, even me in 20 years, I've tried the teleprompter thing with the scripting. It's hard, super hard. It takes a lot of skill. But if you can master that power of talking on points, You're gonna do great. I believe in you. I know you can do it. So if you like this, subscribe to our channel. We got more videos coming your way. And if you want to get notified, hit the little bell on the channel, and we'll see you in the next video. Take care.
