In this weekly rant, Shaun Whynacht addresses small‑business owners, urging them to prioritize mobile‑friendly websites. He points out that mobile devices now outnumber desktop computers and that customers increasingly rely on phones to find local businesses. He explains that mobile users want immediate, essential information—location, contact details, and product availability—rather than background or biography. Whynacht defines a mobile‑friendly site as one that detects a visitor’s device and serves a reformatted, streamlined version of the content, either by adapting the existing site (responsive design) or by providing a separate mobile site. He emphasizes that even a simple mobile‑optimized page can improve accessibility and appeal, and he calls on businesses to implement such a site within the next month to grow their customer base.

All right folks, this is my rant of the week. It's all about this right here, a mobile device. And if you are a small business, why are you so reluctant to believe in the way that the world is going? There are more of these out there than there are desktop computers. So I ask you, why do we spend so much of our budget, so much of our focus around improving our website so that it works well on a desktop computer. Your customers are out around the community and they are being more mobile than ever. They have these devices in their hands and when they want the information, they want it now. What do they want? They want to know where you're located if they're looking for you. They want to know how to contact you. They may want to know if you have a certain product. They don't really care about your background. They don't care about your biography information. They want the information they want and they want it now. So if you're gonna do something in the next month, I urge you to do this: look into making your website mobile-friendly. And what does that mean? All it means is when somebody goes to your website address, the website will know that they are coming from a mobile device and it will reformat that information into a mobile-friendly site. It may be just taking the information from your current website, or if you don't have one, you can have a mobile-friendly website and that's all you really need. And what that means is if you have a mobile-friendly website, you don't have a full-blown one, and somebody goes to that address, they're just going to bring up the mobile site on their computer. It's still going to have some great information, but it's also going to appeal to people that are using these. So think mobile, think for the future, and think about how you're going to grow your business this month.
