#012 - The Lie that You Are Overlooked or Missing Out
13 Dec 2022 · 9 min
Shelley Hitz (podcast host) addresses the feeling of being overlooked or missing out—especially amplified by social media—arguing this is often a lie from the enemy. Through personal church anecdotes (wanting prophetic words, giving an encouraging word to a woman, pastor’s prophetic image of a diamond during a stressful season) she reframes the experience: rather than waiting for encouragement, listeners can be encouragers, and should recall past blessings as evidence God has been providing. She closes with practical invitations to encourage others in community groups and to reflect on God’s past faithfulness.

Welcome back to another episode of Hit Splits. My name is Shelly Hits, and I am just so thrilled that you are here with me and that we can spend this time together. Thank you so much. In this episode, we're just going to talk about the lie that you are overlooked or missing out. This is something I think we all can face at different times, especially in this world of social media and everything is online and so easily accessible. Accessible, and you can see what other people are doing or what's working for them and what seems to be working for them, but what, you know, feels like it's not working for you. It's so easy to be like, okay, Lord, why does it feel like I am getting overlooked? Why does it feel like I am missing out? And yet the Lord may have been giving you so much the entire time. So I was thinking about this at church this week. We were sitting with one of our really close friends, and he walked over to somebody during the service and, you know, I just assumed he was giving that person an encouraging word. So we call it a prophetic word. And the Bible talks about prophecy and that it's for the encouragement and building up of one another. And, you know, to be honest, the first thought that came to my mind is, oh, man, I wish that he had a prophetic word for me. And then the other thing that came to my mind is, why don't I ever receive prophetic words? You know, I feel like God has given me a gift of encouragement and of at times having a prophetic word for someone. And sometimes it's a very simple thing. Like the other day at church, I was just praying and asking the Lord if he wanted me to share anything with anyone, share an encouragement, encouragement with anyone. And I just sensed that he wanted me to tell this woman that she was loved, that she was seen, and she was not forgotten. And I just. I don't know, I just felt like, kind of hesitant. Like, I always. I almost always feel that way when I sense God asking me to just encourage somebody. Like, is this really from God? Is this. You know, but it's like when it's something encouraging like that, like, what. What is the worst that could happen if. If that happens to not be from the Lord, it's still an encouragement for them. So anyways, I went up to her and I just quickly told her that encouragement at one point during the service. And then I. At the end, we go up in the front and we're part of the altar ministry. But I saw her afterwards when we were walking out to our Car after, you know, we had the prayer time at the altar and all those things. And she was like, I just want to tell you thank you so much for taking the time to tell me that. It really meant a lot to me. And I thought, oh, my goodness, that is so neat. But you know what? So I guess that's one encouragement. Sometimes we just need to pray and ask the Lord if he wants us to encourage someone else. Instead of always looking for people to encourage us and to have prophetic words for us, what if we are the ones that are encouraging others? So I encourage you, if you're in the Christian Book Academy members only group, maybe there's someone in the group that you want to share an encouragement with. And we, we do this on our war room prayer meetings once a month. You know, we give you opportunities to speak encouragement into each other, to pray for one another. And has been really, really neat that, you know, just to see some of you, you know, just, you know, as led by the Lord to give an encouraging word to another writer. And so, or even if you know a writer, you have a friend, like, you know, just ask the Lord to give you an encouragement. Um, if there, if you have. If he has an encouragement that he wants you to give them. So just be sensitive to that and take those steps. Because every time that I hesitate and then I actually do it, oh, my goodness, it's like so amazing. The person is so, so grateful. So anyways, back to the original story. I was thinking, why don't I ever receive prophetic words? I'm usually the one giving them and I would love to receive them too. And I was kind of having this little pity party. Do you ever have those, like, the little pity parties like Woe is Me. And then immediately the Lord didn't let me linger there very long. Seriously, I was there maybe a couple minutes, and then immediately the Lord brought to my mind. Back in September, August or September, I was really struggling and just feeling so much pressure. We had, you know, the financial pressure of losing a significant part of our income. The conference, Kingdom Writers Conference was coming up and there was a lot going on. We just had turnover of my main assistant, and I was hiring new people and training. There was just a lot going on at that time, and I was just. I. I don't normally tell people very often when I'm in the middle of it, what's going on. I'll normally wait. One of my friends back in Finley, Ohio, said, Bonnie Settlemeyer, that's her name, she said, when you're in the middle of it, it's a moaning. And that's the time to only tell a few trusted friends, your pastor, your counselor, you know, those types of people. Once you're on the other side of it, it's a testimony, and that's when you can be in talking about it. So now that I'm on the other side, I'm beginning about it. But anyways, I was telling our pastor just what I was going through and the pressure I was feeling and all of these things. And he began praying for me and he had some prophetic words for me. And the picture, the main picture he got for me was of a diamond. And when coal is put through pressure, you know, often then a diamond emerges. And he saw that for me, that in this season of pressure, there was going to be a diamond emerge. And oh, my goodness, like, I literally was crying. Like, it touched my heart so much. It was so encouraging. I made sure to write it down in my journal so I wouldn't forget. And God brought that to my mind. Like, Shelly, that was just a few months ago. And then, not only that, there are times when we are with Christian Book Academy members on our prayer calls that they'll have a word of encouragement or a prophetic word or encourage or encouraging word for me and CJ and so God was just reminding me the enemy wants us to believe that we are being left out, that we are being overlooked and that we are missing out, that God is holding something back from us, that we're giving more than we're receiving. All of these things, you know, and this can happen so often as we're writing, publishing, and marketing our books. It's so easy to look at someone else and say, man, why am I not receiving what they are receiving? And why am I not getting what they're getting? And so I just want to encourage you today to really just bring that to the Lord and trust that he is bringing to you what, what you need. And if you still are not seeing it, just keep praying and asking him. But many times when we look back, we can see that really it's a lie from the enemy and that we have been rece. So much goodness and that God has been providing for us. If we will just look back, if we will just remember, if we will just be. Allow God to. To remind us of the things that he has done for us. So I encourage you today, wherever you're at, look back and start counting the ways that God has been blessing you. Little things, big things. Look back years from, you know, from now and I guarantee you, you'll see how God has been working in your life. And you know what? The more often that you recognize these lies from the enemy, the quicker you will be able to combat them. So when this happened to me at church this week, like I said, it was literally just a few minutes. And then I was like, oh no. Oh no, this is not true. This is a lie from the enemy. The truth is, God is for me. He has been encouraging me. And even if there is no one else speaking an encouraging word into my heart, His Word is encouraging me every day as I read it. So I hope that this encouraged you. And let me know. Let me know any of your takeaways in our Facebook group at Training Authors do. Com Group or email us support at trainingauthors. Com.
