#049 - SEO for Authors (new training)

Hey. Hey. This is Shelly Hitz, and I've been talking a lot about SEO lately. SEO is search engine optimization. And this is one of the ways that you can find new readers for your books or, you know, grow your audience. And it's something that can work long term. It's something that works for introverts. You can use your skills of writing, but there are certain things that you need to know. For instance, you need to know what phrases is your target audience searching for. And there are different keyword tools you can use to find out some of this information. And then you need to know, like, which phrases have the most searches for that month, but the least competition. So you don't necessarily want to write a blog post for a really super popular keyword phrase that everyone else has written a blog post for as well, because you're probably going to get buried on page 20, 30, 50, hundred.

You know, I mean, you want to find those keyword phrases that will be easier to rank for. So this is the power of learning SEO search engine optimization. And this is how I built my business. I first built my business using SEO. I had websites that I would optimize for keyword phrases that people were searching for. So there was you know, at least some decent demand for those searches, but there were not very many people writing blog posts about it. So there was low competition. So you want high search volume, as high as possible and low competition. And this is how authors first found me on the Internet. And I think people that still follow me today, some of them initially found me that way. I got away from SEO and I'm returning to it. You know, I look back and I think, oh man, why did I ever, you know, give up that focus of SEO? The. But, you know, sometimes we just have different seasons, different times. But I recommend if you have a website or if you have a blog to consider using SEO as one of your main attract strategies. So the ways that you're going to attract new readers and to really be in it for the long term. Now there's so many things that we could go into with SEO and so many tools. And so, you know, it can just get so overwhelming. So I wanted to just help you get started simply. And I asked my previous partner, Heather Hart. We had worked together for years helping writers. And that's how she first found me as well, was through a Google search and she found my ministry for teen girls. She ended up volunteering for that.
