28 Feb 2023 · 4 min
Shelley Hitz tells writers and creatives to keep going with small consistent steps, even 15 minutes at a time. Rest when you need to, but return in dependence on God and trust the compound effect. Galatians 6:9 reminds us not to grow weary in doing good.

Welcome back to another episode of Hit Splits. This is Shelly Hits, the owner and founder of ChristianBookAcademy.com here to help you move forward in your call to write, publish, and market your books. And today, I just want to say one simple thing. Keep going. One small step at a time. 15 minutes of writing at a time. One thing at a time. Keep going, going. If you're tired and you need a break, rest. But then rise, Rise again with the strength of the Lord. Now, I'm not saying to grind it out. I'm not saying to push harder. I'm not saying to do it in your own strength. I'm not saying to become a work workaholic. But I am encouraging you to be faithful, to steward the gift that God has given you, to steward the message he has given you, the book he has given you, and to keep the going. Like I said in a previous episode, the biggest thing I see writers doing is giving up too soon and saying, oh, I'm not seeing the results that I want, so I'm moving on. You know what? God has something for you. Even in the waiting, even in the hard times. And lately, I feel like God has been saying to me a lot, shelly, have patience. Don't abandon ship too soon. Because it is so easy for us as creatives. We want that, you know, those. That dopamine and those chemicals in our brain with a new project and something new, and we have all these creative ideas, and it's easy just to move to the next idea. And, you know, I get it. I have done that so many times. And the Lord the last couple years has just been saying, shelly, stay the course and keep going. Don't abandon ship. Have patience.
Anyone else struggle with patience? Because if I don't see the results that I want to see, I just want to do something else. And that is so easy to happen for us as writers, as creatives. And so let me pray for you, Lord. I just pray for each person listening right now that wherever they're discouraged or wherever they're not seeing results, Lord, that you would help them see it through your eyes. And sometimes, yes, we do need to press through and keep going. And sometimes we do need to let go or we need to go a different direction. And, Lord, only you can tell us. But I believe that so many times we just give up too soon. And so I just pray you would give each person listening joy in the waiting, joy in the patience, joy in just walking with you step by step, day by day, knowing that you've got this all right. We thank you, Lord, and praise you for what you're going to do in our lives as we keep going one small step at a time. In Jesus name I pray. Amen. And I've talked about this so many times, but if you haven't heard me say it before, it's the compound effect. It's the small, tiny steps over time that produce the biggest results. And so if you even just keep doing a small thing, like just sitting down for 15 minutes and doing a marketing task, or 15 minutes and writing just small tasks, it will add up. It will yield to big things over time if we don't give up. Galatians 6:9 says, you will reap a harvest if you do not give up. So keep going, friends. We are cheering you on, and I will talk to you in the next episode.
