#126 A Prayer When You Feel Dry
31 May 2024 · 3 min
Podcast episode (transcript) in which Shelley Hitz prays for participants of a virtual writing retreat, addressing spiritual dryness and asking God to pour out the Holy Spirit. She uses metaphors (dry skin; a slip-and-slide needing water) to encourage writers to seek ‘living water’ (Jesus), establish brief daily meetings with God, regain joy, and make progress in their writing this weekend.

And I just got a picture of like, dry skin and that some of you need the oil of the Holy Spirit. You feel dry spiritually. You haven't really heard from him lately or met with God or been intentional. And maybe just the beginning of this virtual writing retreat is a mini business meeting with God, or maybe it flew flows into the first session, the entire first session. I mean, time spent with you, Lord, is never wasted. And so I just pray you would just lead and guide each person how they're to spend their time this weekend on this retreat. We just pray, God, that you would just come and meet with each person and exactly what they need. That you would be like that oil being applied to dry skin, that it just all of a sudden just perks back up and it's over. Repeated use of that oil day after day, that our, you know, skin stays. Stays moist and soft and all of those things. So I just pray that this would just even kickstart a habit of meeting with you, Lord, of just. Even if it's a minute or two before they start to write, that they have a time just to hear from you. What is it you want them to write today? What is it you have to say to them today? What, what is it you're wanting to speak through them today? And so, Lord, we thank you for that. And then I also got a picture of a slip and slide. And, you know, like, a slip and slide without water is not going to be very fun. It's just going to. You're not going to really slip. You're not going to really go anywhere. And some of you may have felt like, you know, this is supposed to be fun. It's not fun. I'm not getting anywhere. I'm not making any progress. But maybe you just need the water, the living water, which is Jesus, right? Maybe you need his word today. Maybe you need some, some fresh anointing from the Holy Spirit. And then once you have the water and you, you, you try again. It's like, whoa, this is actually fun. I can have fun writing. I. This, this is getting me somewhere. I'm moving forward. So, Lord, anyone who's felt stuck, show them, show them what, what it is that will help them to, to move forward with you, Lord, to partner with you and give them grace. Give them joy, Lord. I pray joy over each kingdom writer as they're writing this weekend. And I just pray, God, that you would help them to make progress. We pray for progress. Just like when you start at the top of a slip and slide and you go down to the bottom. You progress, you've. You've, you know, went a distance. And so we pray for progress for each Kingdom writer this weekend, and we just pray this in Jesus powerful name, amen.
