This is a transcript of Kingdom Writers podcast episode #298, titled "Are You Scared of Promoting Yourself?" Hosts C.J. and Shelley Hitz (with other speakers) answer a question from the 2021 Kingdom Writers Conference about fear of self-promotion among Christian writers. Speakers encourage obedience to God rather than fear of others' judgments, cite Matthew's imagery about being a light, urge guarding motives (avoid materialism/pride), and recommend prayer for pure motives. Chapters
Welcome to Kingdom Writers, where we help equip and empower Christian writers of all genres to share your unique gifts with the world. We're your hosts, C.J. and Shelley Hitz.
This podcast is filled with spiritual encouragement as well as prayers to help you overcome the resistance you face as a writer. Your story matters.
We love being able to to answer your questions. And so this month on the podcast, we're going to answer a few of the questions that came up during our 2021 Kingdom Writers Conference. So I hope you enjoy this episode. It's quick to the point, but it's answering a question that another Kingdom writer, just like you had. And I'm guessing many of you have the same question as well.
And Marie says, I have been scared, too, of promoting myself, and that is very common. Carol, Marie, anyone else felt that way before?
I've heard it over and over. And one of the things that Kingdom writers or Christian writers often tell me is that they're afraid of what other people will think. They're afraid other people will think that they're greedy or that they're prideful. And what I just want to remind you all today is that what you do is your responsibility, between you and God. What someone else thinks or does or judges, that's between them and God. Don't let what someone else's opinion is or what they're thinking stop you from doing what God has called you to do. Right.
Matthew talks about being a light on a hill and shining our light, and.
It says, so that people can glorify us. Is that what it says?
No.
It says, so that people can glorify your Father in heaven so that, Carol, as you share your words, a revival will break out in a school and people will be saved and in heaven because you took that step of obedience so that this.
What?
So that God can be glorified. Right. And often the enemy wants to cloud us with that lie, that.
That.
Oh, you're being prideful, you're being this or that. And yet the truth is the enemy's just wanting to stop you. Right?
And God is glorified.
When we take those steps, should we guard our hearts? Absolutely. Because we can get sucked into materialism, we can get sucked into humanism or promoting ourselves. We can get sucked into those things, but don't let it stop you. Amen. Amen.
Ask the Lord. You know, say, lord, I want pure motives as I write this. I do want to honor you, glorify you, want people to have that taste of Jesus. Or even if you're writing a cookbook. I want people to taste something that is different. You know, even as I'm writing, you know, my encouraging tone, hopeful tone, whatever it might be, you're endeavoring to live your life honoring the Lord and so praying for those motives is key. We all need to do it.
So I hope you enjoyed that quick answer to a question and that you were inspired to move forward in your calling to write. Now our 2021 conference is over. We titled it Battle Plan helping you move forward in God's call to write. But you can still get access to to all of the presentations plus the 13 bonus trainings@dommywritersconference.com battle plan and the reason we're making this available ongoing is because we've gotten so much great feedback. So it's just $47 and you can get it@th kingdomwritersconference.com battleplan and we thank.
