Hi, this is Shelly Hitz from authoraudienceacademy.com I'm an author, coach, podcast host, and professional speaker. And I'm here today to help you with reach more people with your message. Now, I'm in the middle of a big book project and I've talked a lot about it. It's called Broken Crayons Still Color. And what I wanted to share with you today is a tip on how to find the references for quotes you want to include in your book. Now, if you're going to include quotes in your book, you need to include references. And the references should be include the book, the edition of the book, and where in the book the quote comes from. Well, if you're like me, sometimes you find quotes all over the place and you're not sure exactly how to locate where the quote is in the book. Maybe you don't even have the book yourself. Well, my mom was here recently. She helped me with my first ColoradoDrawingRetreat.com this last weekend. It was amazing. And she showed me this quick tip on Amazon. So I'm going to show you a couple things you can do if you have quotes that you want to reference in your books. So first of all, I'm here on Goodreads and if you go over to Community, you look at quotes. This is a great place to find quotes from books that you want to include. So I want to include a quote from Corrie 10 Boom.
And I'm going to look in her book Hiding Place. So I'm just going to put Corrie 10 boom hiding place. And what it will do is it will actually bring up popular quotes for Corrie 10 boom that are tagged with hiding place or that are from the book Hiding Place. You can see there. So this is actually the quote I'm looking for. This is what the past is for. Every experience God gives us, every person he puts in our lives is the perfect preparation for the future only he can see. I love that quote and it goes perfectly with something that I'm sharing in my book. So now let's come over to Amazon. Let's try to find where this quote is in her book. And what we're going to go down to is books. We want to look in the print book and not the Kindle book. So you don't want to choose the Kindle store. Come back up and choose books. And I'm going to choose Hiding Place.
And find Corrie Ten Boom's book on Amazon. Okay, here it is. I'm going to open up. Make sure it's the print version.
All right? You can see which version you're on because it's highlighted here. And then what you can do and then. And this was a great little tip my mom shared with me. She was a professor at a seminary for years, always had to have references for everything she shared. And she said she has used this little search inside this book place. I didn't even realize this was here. You guys, this is a great, great tip. Look here, right here on the left hand side. So I'm going to go ahead and put that quote in there and click go. And guess what?
There it tells me that exact quote is on page 12 of the hiding Place. I don't have to go to my library. I don't have to go buy the book. I can Simply go onto Amazon.com, go to the print copy of the book or the paperback copy and use this little search Inside feature right here on the left hand side. You guys, this is incredible, isn't it? It is so amazing. And what you can do then is you can find the exact place in the book and then you can properly reference everything you need to reference in your book. How amazing is that? So cool, right? Yes, it is so, so cool. So if you have any questions on this, please just leave it in the questions box, the comments box.
