Life as an Author Can Get Lonely
3 Nov 2016 · 0 min
A short Author Audience podcast episode (hosted by Shelley Hitz) where Shelley reflects on the loneliness authors and entrepreneurs often feel despite online connections. She shares personal causes (non-traditional work hours, childlessness, dissolved mastermind), describes how prayer and proactively reaching out led her to reconnect via a new accountability partner, and recommends practical solutions: start a prayer team, join a mastermind, or enroll in her coaching (Author Audience Academy or one-on-one). The episode closes with a call to action to join her programs and to leave iTunes reviews.
Welcome to the Author Audience show, the podcast that helps you reach more people with your message, create a book, connect with your audience, change lives. Here's your host, Shelly Hitz.
Welcome to Author Audience, where I'm on a mission to help you reach more people with your message. It's time to let your light shine. I help authors write, self publishing, and market their books, but let's face it, life as an author can get lonely. Can I get an amen? Oh, my goodness. Although I am always connected with people online, I personally still often feel lonely. Have you ever found yourself in the midst of a big group of people and still have those feelings of loneliness rise up out of nowhere? I know I have for a long time now. I've felt like I don't quite fit in and I'm not normal. Part of this comes from being a business owner and an author. I don't have a normal 9 to 5 job, and most people can't relate. When I tell them I'm an entrepreneur, I have my own business, or I'm an author, they just kind of look at me with a deer in a headlight look.
Some of it also comes from never having children often, although we've tried. Most people my age, I'm 41 years old, are busy raising their families now while I'm busy giving birth to new books. And then some of it just comes from life. But recently I was feeling disconnected again. A local mastermind I've been part of dissolved on good terms. And I knew I just needed some deeper connection again, maybe a prayer partner, a mastermind, something. So I began to pray about it, and God brought someone very specific to my mind. My first reaction was, no, she's too busy and I don't want to bother her. But the prompting just kept coming back. So I finally reached out to her and I suggested a few ways that we might be able to connect deeper. And guess what? She and I had a phone conversation and we are going to continue to meet on an ongoing basis. So I'm just so excited that I actually took that step. You know, if you're feeling lonely as an author, I suggest you pray about it and just see what steps maybe you could take to reach out. Maybe you need to start a prayer team. Maybe you need to reach out to someone for accountability. Or maybe it's time to join a coaching program like Author Audience Academy. Our doors are now opened again and you can join us@authoraudienceacademy.com that's my group coaching program. Or maybe it's time to invest in one on one coaching. I still have a few spots open for one on one coaching and you know, it's perfect if you're ready to make writing a priority and finally get your book done. So just check out my coaching page@shellyhits.com coaching and we could chat about it and just see if it's a good fit for you. But many times what I see is, even personally for me is our fears, doubts and insecurities can keep us from reaching out or it can keep us from investing in the next step. Maybe you've had this prompting for months now that you should join Author Audience Academy. One of my recent members said she'd felt that for months and she finally took the leap. She finally joined and she has not looked back. She's just dove in. She loves it, she's moving forward and it's just really exciting to be working with her. So I want you to think about it today. What is one thing you felt prompted to do but have not done yet? I encourage you to do it. I encourage you to reach out. You know, sometimes we don't reach out for fear of rejection or fear of what may happen, what will they think. But many times the risk is worth the reward. And I can tell you I already feel so much better just knowing I have that person in my life, that deeper connection, that prayer partner, that person that understands and gets me and we can interact and talk. I encourage you to to reach out today and I would be honored to work with you inside Author Audience Academy. Let me know if you have any questions on if it's a good fit for you or what it is that you really have as your goal right now. I would love to help you cross that finish line.
