What NOT to Do During a Book Launch
12 May 2016 · 0 min
A short podcast episode from the Author Audience show (host Shelley Hitz) offering a key book-launch tip: avoid overcomplicating launches. Shelley describes her ongoing launch for her book Build and Grow Your Author Platform, using a five-day Facebook Live challenge, hosting replays in a members area, and running a photo-contest incentive. She emphasizes clarifying the target reader (narrowing from "everyone" to a specific niche) and warns that too many steps or calls-to-action confuse people and reduce conversions. The episode includes CTAs to join the challenge and visit authoraudience.com for resources.
Welcome to the Author Audience show, the podcast that helps you reach more people with your message. Create a book, connect with your audience, change lives. Here's your host, Shelly Hitz.
When you're having a book launch, there are definitely things you want to do. I have several episodes on my podcast Author Audience, all about book launches. And in fact, the new episode today is how Shabinds created best selling books through a community on Facebook. And it's really a great episode so I encourage you to check it out. It's at my website, shellyhits.com but I'm in the middle of a book launch right now for this book Build and Grow youw Author Platform, and you'll live and learn, right? I've been doing this since 2008 and I have done dozens and dozens of book launches and I know all of the things to do. But this book launch is kind of a book launch out of the box. It's something different than I've ever done before. And so I wanted to share a quick tip with you today. The tip is don't make it too confusing. So if you have too many steps, too many things going on, too much to do and too many calls to action, it can actually be kind of confusing. So I'm using Facebook Live to broadcast live for five days for my five day Author Platform challenge. And it's a free challenge. You can sign up here. Shellyhits.com platformchallenge but I'm getting all these emails and people on Facebook, they're just confused like where do I watch the videos and where are the replays? And I'm hosting the replays in my members area. Then I'm doing this to promote my book in a book launch. And so they could buy the print book. Then I have a photo contest and if they buy the print book and post a picture, then they get a $47 training. Ah, I think I might have done a little too much with this launch because it does seem like people are a little bit confused. It's fun. Now don't get me wrong, it's been a ton of fun. Today's day two of the challenge and this is going to be an amazing, amazing training if you're available. If you could just hop over on Facebook Live after this. @facebook.com authoraudience I'm going to be sharing the power of getting crystal clear on who your ideal reader is and tips and tools to finding your audience online. And I'm going to actually share with you some in depth stuff. I have handouts, a ton of really, really good actionable tips. Because this is one thing I really feel that many authors are missing. It's a missing link for many authors. I'll say, well, who is your target audience? Well, everyone. Well, everyone may be able to read your book, but we really need to narrow down who our target audience is. When we do that, it's going to make our marketing so much easier. It's going to make writing emails so much easier, writing tweets, creating new content. It's just going to be more fun. It's not going to feel as much of a dread because you know who you're talking to. And, and I'm going to actually share this really cool case study as well. One of my clients, one on one clients in 45 minutes. We were able to clearly define his target audience from everyone in the self help world to a very tight niche that he's really passionate about. So I'm excited to share that case study with you as well. You can get lifetime access to the videos you can to the worksheet and the checklist that go along with this challenge@shellyhits.com platformchallenge. But my main tip for you today is be careful about making things too complicated. The simpler you can make it, the better. Because when you have too many things going on, too many moving pieces, people get confused and a confused mind says no. That's basic marketing. A confused mind says no. And so I'm still learning. I'm documenting this entire process and I'll be sharing this it with you later about just how it all went. But I hope you guys have a great day and I hope that I see you on the inside of the challenge@shellyhits.com platformchallenge and if you found this video helpful, please share it with your author friends and I'll see you next time. Bye Bye.
