Welcome back to another episode of Writing Week. This is the first final day, day seven, and it has been a special week of daily podcasts to introduce you to my free nonfiction writing challenge called writingweek.com you can sign up for a free and joiner community of writers and authors that are getting more done finding focus and just getting unstuck, making progress. It's really exciting to see see all the results that are happening. So today is day seven and I love being able to share this information with you and just going to recap what we've already covered. So day one was all about tracking and in the members area you'll be able to download the tracking worksheets and what I call writing week journals that you can use. They're in different formats so you can use what works best for you, Excel, Word Document or PDF. And in day one I also recommended that you write in a certain order that you focus on one step at a time. So the order is number one to outline. I love outlining. I have a book outline to finish line. It's perma free on Amazon if you want to check that out. Number two, research. So then once you have your outline, fill in some gaps with the research. And then number three, write. That way you can totally focus. You can get into the writing zone and you can write now if you do notice some things that you'll need to research later, you can flag those. You can have a notebook just to take quick notes. But try not to edit while you're writing because that's the fourth step is editing. And then day two we talked about scheduling. You you know, when we have something that's important in our life, we put it on a schedule and we make sure to follow through. The same thing happens with our writing when we put it on our schedule. When we make time for it, we can then follow through. Whereas if we say we want to write someday, it tends to not ever happen. Day three we talked about goal setting and I talked about the smart goals and encouraged you to get specific when setting setting your goals. Day four is the Pomodoro technique. This is an amazing productivity tip for any form of business. So you can use the Pomodoro technique for anything you're doing really. And it's just setting a timer for 25 minutes of focused work or focused writing followed by a five minute break. Over and over and over again, I heard successful, productive authors talk about using the pomodoro technique. Day five was mindset. And that's where you can download those 72 affirmations for writers to help you break through the obstacles in your mind. Day six we talked about environment and energy. And now finally you're at day seven. Now, once you've been able to track your writing for seven days, you should start to see some trends, you should start to see some things that are improving. And what I have for you is I actually have a full 30 day challenge in the members area of Authoritarian Academy or you can upgrade for a one time fee so that you can continue the process. But whether you choose to continue on or just do the free challenge for seven days, I really know that this is going to help you take one step, you know, get you one step closer to sharing your message with the world. I just got this audio feedback from Cassy Layman and just makes me so excited. She finished the first draft of her book and 10,000 words during writing Week. I'll let her share more with you.
Hi there, this is Cassandra Layman and I have a blog and a podcast called the True Health Spotlight and you can find those@beaconwealth.com and the book that I am writing is called I Found Jesus in the Stock Market. Now unlike a lot of people who set out to write a book, I really don't love to write. And in fact I was not excited about writing a book at all. But I decided that I needed to write a book as an adjunct to the workshops and speaking engagements that I give. And that is why I started Writing Week. And at the beginning of Writing Week I would call myself a reluctant writer. Now I have to admit I was hesitant to sign up because I thought it was just going to be one more thing on my to do list. And I really was wouldn't be able to do the assignments on time or to do them very well. But in reality each assignment was short and it was very doable and at the same time it had a big impact on my writing. At the end of seven days, I had the first draft of my book completed. So I wrote over 10,000 words in that very short period of time. And I have to tell you, I actually enjoyed the process. Now one of the things that helped me the most was learning to track my writing when I was writing, where I was writing. And the amount of writing I was able to accomplish in each session really helped me to understand when and where I did my best writing. And also tracking that word count kept me motivated because I could see what I was accomplishing each and every day. It feels so amazing to have my first draft done, and I know there's a lot of work ahead in terms of editing, but for me, this first draft seemed insert and it just feels like such a great accomplishment to have that done. You know, we're all so busy these days, and all of Shelly's teaching comes in small chunks, so you can complete a lesson in a very short amount of time. And that is what really helped me to get momentum. So I always felt like I was taking steps toward the completion of my goal. So if you have a writing project that you need to complete, I highly recommend this. The Writing Week Challenge. Again, this is Cassandra Layman, and my upcoming book is called I Found Jesus in the Stock Market. My website is beaconwealth.com thanks so much.
Incredible. It just makes me amazed to see what God is doing through Writing Week. If you want to get a little more focus, if you want to improve in some way your writing, I encourage you to join us@writingweek.com you may get the results like Cassie and finish the first draft of your book. Or maybe you'll finally be able to cross off a project on your to do list that has been hanging over your head. Whatever it is, I would love to invite you to be there because I really think one of the powerful things of Writing Week is the ability to leave comments. It's a community. It's not just a book. It's not just.
A digital download. You actually get to interact. You get to see what's working for other authors, and it can really help you. Now, this month in the podcast, I'm going to share more on publishing. So after you've finished your writing, after you have the first draft, the next step is to publish. I'm going to be talking about the one strategy I recommend to publish a book. I'm going to be sharing five Steps to Publishing an audiobook, and I'm going to be talking about how to translate your book in other languages. So there's a ton of really good content coming up on the podcast. If you have gotten any value at all in this podcast, would you please leave me a comment on itunes? Just you can leave your review and your rating and your review, and that's just a way for me to know that you're listening, that you're getting value from this and that you want more of this training. This is free. I give this to you for free. And you know, just like in any relationship, I want this to be a two way relationship. So if you haven't done it yet, just take a minute, go into itunes or on Stitcher if you're on the Android and just leave your comment and review, let me know. It would mean the world to me. I appreciate you. I thank you for taking this time to listen to this podcast, to share this time with me and I'll see you next time.
