Catherine DeDecker grew up as the eighth of nine siblings in an ethically grounded family. As the quiet one, she learned to listen closely to her brothers and sisters, a habit that became her superpower in work and life. She credits this upbringing with her straightforward style: no pretense, no drama, what you see is what you get.

I think I go back to my dad and my mom, and I'm one of 9 children. Oh my gosh, I didn't know that. Yeah, so I'm the 8th of 9 children. So growing up, everybody had to work together, everybody had to get along, everybody had to live the way that my parents lived, which was very ethical. And, you know, it was really interesting because being the 8th of 9 children, it's I was the quiet one because I was listening because I didn't have a chance to talk. So I observed a lot, I think, when I grew— when I was growing up. And I didn't realize that till later in life that, you know, you watch your brothers and sisters and that's how you learn. And they were— they all have interesting careers and they all grew up. Everybody had a chance to work in the business. So they got a chance to see if they would want to be a surveyor, be an engineer. But yeah, it's really interesting. So when I come home, Yeah, I'm no different at home than I am at work. It's, uh, everything is ethical. I mean, that's just the way I live my life. And I think that's the way that people see me is just, I'm going to tell it, put it this way. I'm going to tell it like it is. I don't pretend. I don't have time for that. And I don't have time for drama. So it is what it is. And what you see is what you get with me.
