Do fat faces age the best? #dermreacts

Cosmetic dermatologist Shereene Idriss explains why facial fat protects against aging. As you get older, fat pads, bone, and connective tissue shrink, causing hollow cheeks and sunken eyes. Buccal fat removal and aggressive weight loss strip the volume that keeps faces looking young.

People that have fat in their face age the best. It's the truth. And this, it's, it's something that I personally never wanted to agree with until I saw it.
Which is why as you get older, it's always been your face or your ass. Because for years everyone has been so obsessed with looking so snatched, sharper cheekbones, hollow cheeks, buccal fat removal. Now it seems like the internet is finally catching up. And I've been a cosmetic dermatologist for over a decade, and the wrinkle part of aging is only a tiny part of the aging story. Because underneath the skin there is an entire support system that is actively changing. Your facial fat pad compartments are shrinking and shifting, your bones are gradually getting hollower, and the scaffolding that once held up your face to full fullness is changing shape and melting. So suddenly your cheeks look flatter, your temples look hollower, and your eyes look more sunken in. And here's the irony: the very fat that you have spent years trying to get rid of is the one thing that is keeping you looking youthful, which is exactly why I have been so vocal and against unnecessary buccal fat removal. You're permanently removing this gold from your cheeks to create a hollow look that aging is going to give you for free. And now we are even seeing younger people consider facelifts before they've even ever started aging. And this is the thing I think most people do not understand: lifting your face and restoring volume are 2 very different things. And just because you can make a face look more lifted or sculpted with a facelift, it doesn't necessarily mean you're going to make it look younger or healthier. Number 1, be mindful of unnecessary or very rapid weight loss because facial volume is going to go with your ass. Number 2, before you permanently remove fat from your face, I want you to ask yourself, am I getting rid of something that I genuinely do not want, or is this something that I might spend the next 20 years trying to get back? And last, the goal is not to chase whatever face is trending today. It is to take care of your face today so that you could be living with it 20 years from now.
