Kiowa vs B-model | Recurves

Shane from Great Plains Bows compares the Kiowa and B-model recurves. The Kiowa is cheaper and simpler to build with a straight beam design, while the B-model has curved lamination and decorative veneers. Both are center-shot and shoot nearly identically, so the choice comes down to budget versus aesthetics.

Guys. Shane. Great Plains bows and today I wanted to talk about the Kiowa and our B model recurves first. I'll talk about the Kiowa a little bit here. The Kiowa is kind of our introductory model into the custom bow world at Great Plains. It's a very high performing bow, but as you can see, it's a bit easier for us to build. It's just got the straight beam running through it. So as far as the glue up, it's simpler for us. It doesn't have any belly overlays and it just comes in this color scheme with black glass. You can get it in a 60 inch or 64. This one happens to be a 64 inch and it's a very high performing bow. It has somewhat of the. It has very, very close to the B model limb. It's a very fast bow, very smooth bow. Let me show you a B model here. Here's the side profile of both of these bows unstrung. Both of these bows are center shot bows. They're cut past center about an eighth to 316 of an inch. The B model now is fully custom. You can get that in any color scheme that we have. And it's a 60 inch bow. This particular one is made out of myrtle burl with spalted tamarind limb veneers and an FR4 cap with mosaic laminations. This one has rams horn on the tips. And you can see this has the curved lamination running through it. So it's got belly overlays, back overlays, and it's a very, very smooth shooter. Very popular bow. It's got the forward handle just like the Kiowa. It's an indexing grip. Both of these bows, they would be very comparable in the way that they shoot. Very comparable. Very smooth drawing bows and good speed. So if you're considering one of our recurves and you don't have the money but you want the performance, you could go with the Kiowa and you still have all the performance and it's quite a bit cheaper. Or if you want all the looks with the performance, you can go with the B model one piece recurve. Here's the side profile of the B model. One piece strung and the Kiowa strung. You can see the limb profile is pretty close, pretty close to the same. And so they shoot almost identical. Both great shooting bows. Thanks for watching.
