The A-Z of a High Self-Esteem

The C in this self-esteem series is about compliments. Give at least five genuine ones daily: to yourself, family, kids, your spouse, parents, even your surroundings. Compliments create a ripple effect where the giver and receiver both feel better and perform better.

Hello everyone, you're watching the A to Z series of inculcating a high self-esteem, and today we're going with the letter C. C for compliment. To feel good about yourself, you have to compliment. You have to compliment others, you have to compliment yourself, you have to compliment the situation, you have to compliment your children, you have to compliment your parents, you have to compliment everyone around you. I believe that when you want to feel good, you have to learn to compliment things around you. For example, in the morning, if I'm looking good, I'd like to compliment myself. Hey Sidhika, you're looking good today. Or it's also important to compliment your children. For example, when my daughter comes back from school and she's done very well in her homework, I usually like to compliment her and I tell her, hey Miraya, you've done an excellent job today. Or, "Hey, Reyanchi, I just love the way you've colored today." And more often than not, complimenting always has a ripple effect. When you compliment another person, that compliment gives you huge dividends. It actually works as a ripple effect and it helps the child or the person with you do even better. That child wants to now color much better than she already has because she's got a compliment which has made her feel good about herself. So complimenting is a very important aspect of increasing your self-esteem, of having a healthy self-esteem, of feeling confident, feeling good. So always remember, first thing in the morning, compliment yourself. Start with complimenting yourself. Say something good to yourself, something that you had done yesterday which was good, or it could even be something you did last week. Compliment yourself. Compliment your spouse, compliment your parents, compliment your family members, compliment your children, compliment the situation, compliment a room. When you enter a room, compliment the walls of the room. So maybe in a day, try at least 5 compliments every day to inculcate a strong sense of self, a high level of confidence, and an overall positive self-image. I hope you enjoyed letter C. Stay tuned for letter D tomorrow. Bye!
