The Letter U

Your USP is the distinctive strength that sets you apart, like Domino's 30-minute delivery or Michael Jackson's talent. Write down your skills and experiences, then narrow to what's truly unique: maybe your communication style or multicultural background. Develop it through learning and apply it to your career goals.

Hi, welcome back to the A to Z series of inculcating a high self-esteem. Yesterday we had training your mind, training your mind to accepting circumstances and emerging a winner from that. Today I have the letter U. Before I jump in, I'd like you to think of two letters that you really remember, that resonated with you and that you're actually implementing in your life. I hope I have given you a new perspective of seeing the letters A to Z and applying them in your life. Today for the letter U, I have USP. How many of you know what USP means? It means Unique Selling Proposition. A pizza, a fresh pizza is delivered 30 minutes to your doorstep. That is the USP of Domino's. A package is delivered within 24 hours overnight into another country. That is the USP of FedEx. The pop star Michael Jackson, that's his USP. What is your USP? You need to identify your biggest strength, your unique selling proposition that sets you apart from everybody else. I am going to tell you a way of doing that. Right now, write down a list of all your skills, experiences, strengths, and assets. Things you are proud of, things you've done, things that make you, you. Once you've written down a list, narrow it down to a few skills that you feel are very unique to you. It could be your communication skill. If it's a very strong one, it sets you apart from others. It could be the way you carry yourself. It could be the clothes you wear, it could be your background, you know, if you have a multilingual background or multinational background, anything that sets you apart from the entire crowd that makes you feel, okay, this is your USP, this is what shouts out your name. Once you've identified your unique selling proposition, you're ready. That identifies you, that talks about you, and that will help you succeed in life for sure. Once you've actually decided, this is my USP, I'm going to grow this USP further by updating my knowledge, by taking more workshops, and using my USP into my dream job or my dream career or my aspirations, you— it's amazing. It actually becomes your strongest strength. Your self-esteem rises up because you always feel unique, you feel different, you feel like you're different from everybody else. Today, identify your unique selling proposition. What's going to set you apart? What are people going to be talking about you? How are people going to be attracted towards you? Once you've developed and identified your biggest strength, your USP, you are on the way to success. Have a great day. I hope today was useful. I'll see you next time with the letter V. Bye.
