The Letter X

X is for crossing out habits that don't serve you and learning to say no. Over-committing to please others tanks your reputation and self-esteem. Set boundaries, postpone when you need to, and protect your time.

Hi, welcome back to the A to Z series of increasing your self-esteem. Yesterday we spoke about working out. A physical and a mental workout are extremely important for a healthy self-confidence and self-esteem. It's important to look good, to keep yourself physically healthy and fit, and it's also important to mentally challenge your brain, to do a lot of brain teasers and brain workouts to keep your brain functioning. Today we have the letter X, and for X I have the letter X. X basically signifies a cross. A cross can mean breaking a rule. A cross can also mean saying no to something. Both of these are essential things in today's life. We get so used to a regular, monotonous, daily, mundane timetable kind of life that sometimes we even forget to analyze whether what we're doing is actually good or bad. We just kind of do it because we've been doing it for many years to come. In a business setting or as a family, we just follow certain trends without even realizing why we are doing it. We just follow them and we stick to it. Today, question yourself.
Cross out something, break the rules for something that you feel is not being beneficial.
Think about your day. Think about any habit or anything that you're doing just routine-wise because you're used to doing it and question yourself why you're doing it. And if you don't feel it's actually useful or helpful, cut it out, cross it out. That's the first step. The second one is saying a no. We feel that we always need to be good to people, we always need to be nice. Only if we're nice, people are going to love us, people are going to want to hang out with us. We're wrong. Part of it, yes. Part of it, people are going to do that anyway. Whether they like you or they don't, most of the times they're going to hang out with you if they want to, and they won't if they don't want to. So don't stress out. Sometimes we spread ourselves too thin in the worry of saying no. Even if we have around 5 or 6 responsibilities throughout the day, um, we're really busy, but we don't— we, we don't say no for anything. Even when we know we can't go through.
There are lots of disadvantages to that.
If you don't say no, you might be late at a deadline for something, because of which you don't deliver, which anyway puts you in a wrong light. So in your workspace, as a family, with friends, at home, learn to say no. Say no to something that you know you won't be able to do on the same day.
Postpone it maybe for the next day.
So today for the letter X, I have challenging yourself, saying no to something that you are not able to do, and also breaking the rules. I hope it was useful. I'll see you tomorrow with the letter Y. Bye!
