How Does Intuition Really Work?
18 Jan 2024 · 8 min
A short podcast by Siddharth Rajsekar exploring what intuition is, how it differs from the ‘little voice’ or restless mind, and practical ways to access intuition (silence, meditation, service). Rajsekar frames intuition as guidance from true intelligence/the soul and the little voice as the uncontrolled mind; he emphasizes purification, introspection, and pure intentions as ways to increase intuitive guidance.

Do you believe in intuition? Do you believe that sometimes you may be guided by messages internally? And what is the difference between intuition and that little voice that is there in you that actually stops you from doing things? And how do you differentiate between both? That's what I'm going to be covering in this podcast. You see, I've not been a huge believer of all of these things for many, many, many years. And then the more I started to practice this in my life, I kind of understood, like, what is this all about? Like, what is intuition? What is insight? What is that inner voice or the little voice that stops you from doing things? And the more I started to differentiate between the two, I started to, you know, I was able to discriminate and make better decisions and so on. So I was reading this book called the Master Key System. In fact, I like listening to audiobooks. I was just going through it on my daily drives. And then there was a point in that book where Charles F. Hannel, who's the author of the book, he mentions that intuition is like a guest. If you're somebody who welcomes a guest to your home and treats them well, there's a high chance that they'll keep coming back more. Similarly, when we are guided internally, when we get these intuitive thoughts, when we acknowledge, appreciate, and celebrate, then there's going to be higher chance of intuition coming back again and again. So now let's go back to the what is intuition like? According to me, I'm giving you my view. There could be many views on this because there are many people who have decoded in their own ways. So the way I perceive or look at intuition, this is like your picture pure consciousness or your pure intelligence guiding you from within. As you know, we have three kinds of mental bodies, okay? We have the mind, intelligence and the false ego. The true ego is when the soul knows who. I mean, when the true ego is knowing your true position, okay? And most of our positions are covered by past karmas, different layers and anything else. So we have our physical body and then we have our mental body. Now, the mental body comprises of the mind, the intelligence, and the false ego. Now, the mind is like.
The reins of chariot, which are controlling the senses. And I want you to imagine five horses right in the front. Those are the five different senses. Touch, smell, hearing, smelling and seeing.
Now, if your mind is not in control, so if your mind does not control your senses, your senses can go haywire, and that's going to affect the soul. So the person who is riding the chariot is intelligence, true Intelligence.
And the passenger of that chariot is the soul. The soul that is never born, that never dies, and that's always pure in a state of all bliss, all knowledge and all happiness, all satisfied. That's the true nature of the soul. But the soul is. While it's in the body, it is covered by so many different layers. So intuition, according to me, is when the driver of the chariot, which is the intelligence, is prompting you to do a few things which is in alignment with what the soul really needs. And the only way to tap into that intelligence or to hear that intelligence, because it's always there to serve you and support you, just that you may not be paying heed to it. The only way to tap into that is when you are in an introspective mode, when you go and sit with yourself, when you're in a silent place. See, when you're doing any form of meditation or japa or chanting or anything, it purifies your consciousness. It's like clearing the cache of your hard disk and all the clutter that is there. And it is a kind of having a daily bath, just like you have a bath for your physical body. Meditation, japa, all the processes, like giving a bath to your mental body and your spiritual body.
So that helps in terms of purification, but in terms of getting guidance from within, you have to really tap into the true intelligence. Now, true intelligence is not something that it's not going to be coming from books, okay? You may learn different things from different places, but true intelligence is guided by the soul. Because the soul is pure. And in our heart we also have the super soul, a creator sitting in every person's heart, knowing what we are doing, monitoring our actions. And when the super soul guides us through the intelligence, that's what is intuition. Now, what is the little voice? The little voice is actually the mind, the monkey mind that jumps from here to there. Always wanted to do something else. You know, in the Gita, Arjuna says that my mind can be. Krishna says that the mind can either be your best friend or your worst enemy. And even the strangest secret in the world, Earl Nightingale says that you become what you think about. It's all about your thoughts. So thoughts is the only via media between the subconscious and the conscious world, the physical and the metaphysical reality. So it's the thoughts that really make become into things. So thoughts are again guided by the mind. So if your mind is uncontrolled, or the mind does not take the cue from the intelligence and wants to do things on its own, that's what we call as a little voice or the thing that actually stops you from doing whatever you have to do. So what is the mind? The mind is meant to be tamed, to control the senses. And if the senses are out of control, it means the mind is out of control. And that really means that we are not paying heed to the intuition or intelligence. And the soul is going to go on a different joyride or a roller coaster journey from one body to the next, transmigrating from one life to the next life, depending on all its desires and inclinations through the uncontrolled mind. So the more we start to tap into our intuitive abilities, that's when we are becoming more human. Otherwise you would just be like any other animal that eats, sleeps, mates and defends. So how do you tap into intuition is through silence. The more you are in nature, the more you're connected to the higher consciousness, the more you are going within and seeking guidance consciously. You will start to get downloads, you'll start to get those whispers and the small ideas of your intelligence telling you. And when you honor and acknowledge that.
That intuition will start to work more, it'll start to visit you more. And the ideas that you would get from that plane, it's, it's very, very beautiful. And I just want to close this podcast by mentioning one thing, that the more purer your intentions are, the more intuitions you will get.
The more self centered your intentions are. You may not be guided internally because that's the nature of the soul. Just like how sweetness is the innate quality of sugar.
Service is the innate quality of the soul. And the more you are putting yourself in that mindset of serving others and serving your community and serving our creator and being in that mood, your intuition will start to get activated more and more and more.
And don't ask me how it works because I do not know how it works. Just like I do not know how electricity works, but I just know how to turn on the switch and turn on the light. Similarly, even I do not know how does the subconscious mind work, how does the conscious mind work, how does karma work? How does action and reaction work? All of these are very complicated subjects which I can't understand. But all I know is the more you go inwards and seek guidance from your true intelligence, the soul and the super soul will guide you intuitively. And all you have to do is have faith in that act on it. I hope you found this podcast useful. Catch you in the next episode.
