Starting things are easy, quitting things easier. But to take things to the finish line is the hardest. And this podcast, I want to share some thoughts on this.

Thank you for being here. And in this topic I'm going to talk about how do you take things to the finish line and what inspires people to take things to the finish line and what affects people in dropping the ball in between. As I said in the beginning of the podcast, it's very easy to start things. In other words, it's exciting to start things, it's easy to quit things, but to take things to the finish line is the hardest. Now, if you're somebody who has been starting things and quitting things, starting and quitting every few months, then there's a pattern there and you got to break that pattern. So let's analyze and understand the root cause of this issue and how can we get done with this for good? So that what was the next project that you're going to be taking up? You're going to take this to the finish line with more confidence, with more vigor, with more predictability than ever before. So now let's get to the root cause of the issue. Just imagine that you are starting some new project and you get excited about it for a while, but you don't take it to the finish line. You decide to switch in between or some obstacle comes in the way, or your mind jumps from one thing to the other and you feel, okay, maybe this is not the right thing for me to do. And then you jump into something else. Now, the root cause of this is not having clarity on your bigger purpose or vision, meaning that you're picking something just because it sounds exciting to do. Now, when you pick a project which sounds exciting or feels exciting without really having a larger than life or 33,000ft above the air vision or a goal or a purpose, it's going to be very difficult for you to decide whether that's the right thing to do or not. And for this, I'll give you an example. My son and I, we were going towards the airport and halfway I realized that I did not have his Aadhar card. So if I turn back, we would miss the flight. And if you go forward to the airport, I was not sure if I would be able to make the flight. So just struck my mind that there was a digital copy of his Aadhar card which I can go and get in a print shop. So I told the driver, hey, you can just, if you find a print shop, please pull over and I would like to take a printout and surely, but you know, within the next two or three minutes we found a printout shop, he pulled over, I went there, I logged into my email account, I was able to find his Aadhar card and I took a copy of that, I took a printout and I got into the car and then we reached the airport in 20 minutes. We reached on time, we made the flight. Now something interesting happened in those 20 minutes. From the time that I took a printout till I reached the airport, I saw at least 10 other print shops.
I'll repeat that. From the time I took the print out of the Aadhar card till I reached the airport, I could see at least 10 other print shops along the way. Now the question that I have for you is this. If I had the Aadhaar card of my son with me before we left home, would I have seen those 10 different print shops while going on the road?
The answer is no right now. The reason I was able to see those print shops is because I had activated this thing called the reticular activation system inside because I was actively looking for that. More of that showed up now since you know I had that need, it showed up now if I had the other card with me, I wouldn't have seen that. Now this is the same principle when it comes to project and starting things like if you don't have clarity on where you want to go.
You will not have the power to say no to all those things that are supposed to take you there. In other words, when you have clarity on where you want to go, you'll have the power to say no. You have power to discriminate between okay, is this the right project to start or not? And you won't start something just because it's exciting. I hope this was a bulb on for you if your bulb just went on right now. So the first point is if you have had a pattern in your life where you have not taken things to the finish line is to start writing goals is start to get clear on what you want. Clarity can be in multiple areas. Like get clear on what is the ideal health you want to be in. Get clear on what's the ideal relationship situation you want to be in. Get clear on how much Money do you want to make per month? How? And then you start working backwards. If you have to make say 3 lakhs per month, then what should you be able to sell? So just brainstorm on some ideas and then how many unit sales do you need per month? And for you to be able to get so many sales, what kind of marketing should you do for those, for those kind of marketing, what kind of offer should you have? So it all works backwards. Okay? You got to start with the end in mind. And then there are some things which are, which you cannot map out with metrics, like numbers and stuff. But it's more like aspirational goals. Like what kind of a space do you want to live in? Like for example, before I was, you know, before I got my Mercedes car, I used to write specifically like, I drive a beautiful white Mercedes cla. And then, you know, I used to describe that and then I manifested that and then I upgraded to the eqs. And the thing is, every time I would write my goals pertaining to what car I wanted to drive or what kind of house I wanted to live in, the initial part of the goal writing process was where I did not describe the model or the specifics of it. But then the, but then I started to write something more generic. For example, I'd sit in a. I describe the model, but not the specific model. You know, I describe the make. I had in my mind that yes, I want to drive a Mercedes, but which particular model is something that evolved over time. So when you're writing your goals in the beginning, if you have clarity on the specifics, that's great. But even if you don't describe the features, something like, I drive the best car that defines my style. I live in a neighborhood surrounded by achievers, I live in a beautiful home. That's so much square foot. Now what project it may be, where it is going to be, which city is it going to be, all of that could be, you know, it could evolve over time. So back to the first point. If you want to take things to the finish line, you got to get absolutely clear on what you want. And it is not a one time goal writing process. It's a daily goal writing process. Now the second thing is, if you're somebody who likes to start things, but who has a tough time in finishing things, you may fall under this kind of a profile called the creator profile. That means you like to, you like new things to keep coming up. Okay? And there are some profiles who don't like to start things, but they like to finish things. They like to take things and make it even better. And they like to work with people who start things. So there are different personality types. And I would highly recommend that you go through this website called 16personalities.com just to understand what is your personality type. And that's not to give an excuse to yourself that, you know you're just a starter and not a finisher. But that's just to understand where your personality traits are so that you can be aware of what are your strengths and weaknesses, so that you can start to work on your weaknesses and on your strengths simultaneously.
And the third way to really overcome this and to take things to the finish line is to put yourself in an environment that's conducive to taking and action. Like most people, they start things, but they don't take it to the finish line because they are playing the solo game. They're alone. They don't have somebody else holding them accountable. They're not a part of a community. And that's specifically one of the reasons I love building communities. And I'm propagating the idea of everyone building communities to create a progressive, you know, culture of learning and growing.
So my suggestion to you here is, if you're not yet a part of my community, join us. You know, by coming to Sidsidsids co live, attending my next webinar, Taking action and being a part of a community. Because once you're in a community, you can find an accountability partner. You can share your wins, you can share your struggles and get support answers. Because it's not so much about information anymore. Yeah, to really make things happen, you don't need information. There's already so much of information. But what you need is the right energy. Then more importantly, you need the right intention on why you want to do whatever you want to do. So the first point is to get clarity in your goals. The second point is to understand your personality and work on your strengths and weaknesses. The third point is to put yourself in a community so that you are able to be in that zone of, you know, productivity and action taking and not getting lost. Because when you're on, when you're on your own, it's going to be more and more difficult. And I just want to leave you all with a final thought is that.
The mind is like a monkey. It jumps from here to there. Even in the Gita, Arjuna tells Lord Krishna. He tells him that I can control the wind, but I can't control my mind.
And Lord Krishna tells him, yes, your mind can either be Your best friend or your worst enemy. And Lord Krishna also tells him that, yes, you can control your mind through practice. Yeah, by putting yourself through like a regimen that can help you control your mind.
So things like meditation, prayer, getting more centered, spirituality.
Things that.
Center you as a person, and even that, that does not really make your mind jump from one thing to the other. These factors also can help you in achieving your goals. These factors will also help you look at long term perspective of things.
And I want to leave you with another thought.
And the thought is this. When you are able to make decisions today.
That is going to have an impact 30, 40 years from now, that's those are decisions that you got to make. In other words, if you ask yourself the question, okay, this decision, what I'm going to make right now, is it going to have a positive impact on my life 40 years from now? Just ask the question and if you get the answer as a yes, do more of that. And. But if you're making a decision right now and you feel okay, it's going to be momentarily or temporarily satisfying, but in the long run it's not going to be helping you.
Then that's. Those are the decision that you got to stop. Okay. In other words, delaying gratification. Back to the Stanford experiment, the marshmallow test done on kids at the age 4. They did a test on those kids and they found out that the kids who are able to resist temptation in the short term, we're able to gain massive success in the long term. And I would like to leave with that particular thought that to really make a huge difference and to take things to the finish line, you got to think more than 30, 40 years into the game and you'll get all of your answers if you're in that zone.
