15 Dec 2022 · 9 min
This episode (podcast) by Siddharth Rajsekar explains how to overcome the fear of making YouTube videos by exercising the practice of recording and focusing on serving an audience. Rajsekar recounts his own evolution (500+ videos, early low-quality uploads) and gives a concrete three-step workflow: (1) list the top 10 pain points of your target audience, (2) break each into three or six actionable steps, and (3) record and publish simple videos using an "intro → content → outro" format; he also recommends consistency (1–2 videos/week) and cross-posting, and ends with community promotion.

How to overcome the fear of making videos on YouTube. That is the question that I'm going to be answering in this particular podcast. Sidharth Vatshikhar here. Let's dive in.
Hey, Sid here. Welcome to this podcast. And I would like you to subscribe to my podcast on Apple or Spotify so that you get notified on future episodes. Now, I've published actually over 500 videos on YouTube and I still remember the first video that I published was very, very crappy. I could not look at myself. I was not in the flow. I was not even looking at the camera and speaking and my head was all over the place. You know, the information was not organized and it was a very, very painful thing to watch. And even if you go to my YouTube channel and go back to my 2012, you know, videos and see it's, you'll see that it's a very different person out there. And I purposely kept some of my old videos over there. Now the interesting thing is I had a channel before 2012 where I was uploading videos from 20, I think 9 and 10 and that. And I had more than 2, 300 videos that I published, which that particular channel got shut down for whatever reasons. At that point of time. I was promoting some affiliate marketing products and it was against their policies, but that was my practice ground where I was publishing videos, 3 minute, 4 minute, 5 minute videos back in the day itself. And I realized that this whole process of evolving from being somebody who's completely an introvert, not being able to face the camera, to now you just turn on the camera switch and I can just go on for maybe a few hours. If I have to do a video on YouTube or just do a webinar, I can go on for multiple hours in a very comfortable way because I exercise that muscle. So the first principle I want to tell all of you is that to overcome fear, you have to first face the fear and you got to do it in spite of the fear being there. Because, you know, 80 to 90% of the people, they don't even get started because they are in this mode of analysis. Parallel is thinking about, you know, what other people would think about them. Would they look good on video? What if they mumble and fumble and don't, you know, speak properly? What if their content is not prepared properly? What if people judge them for the content that they post? What if somebody gives a dislike on their post or what if somebody commenting that your video is not good? You know, all of these fears stop people from taking that first step. So My first point to all of you here, even before I get into the main part of today's podcast, is act in spite of fear. Because fear is always going to be there, okay? To be successful, you have to really overcome those fears. And when you act in spite of fear, it will give you a moral authority. The more and more you do it, like exercising a muscle in the gym, the first time you do it, it's really, really painful. The first week is incredibly painful. You'll have body pains and stuff like that when you're in the gym and you know, exercising for the first time. And then week two, you slowly start to get into the groove. And by the end of the first month, if you're regular at it, what's going to happen is you'll start to notice that you start loving it. So that's exactly how YouTube also works. See, YouTube is one of the biggest channels in the world. It's the second largest. In fact, I should say it's the first largest search engine in the world. In fact, I hardly go on Google and search anymore. I go to YouTube and search for stuff. Previously, Google was the number one search engine, now YouTube the second. You know, it is the search engine of the world. It's the number one in the world. You know, it's moved from second place to the first place because people are searching for whatever they want. So. And the best part about YouTube as compared to other channels is it's discoverable. Many of my videos that I recorded even three to four years back, people are still able to consume that content and get value from it. And I'm getting leverage out of that. What I had posted two, three years ago. So comparing YouTube with Facebook and Instagram and Twitter and every all other platforms where content gets lost in the newsfeed, YouTube is a platform that is worth pursuing and building. And it is not too late. It's not too late. There are so many YouTube influencers have just grown the last two, three years by sheer consistency and by adding a lot of value. So coming back to the topic, how to overcome this fear of making videos on YouTube is I want you to think about this point. Whenever you feel nervous, think about service, okay? Whenever you feel fearful, think about how you can solve a problem. The only reason people are afraid is, you know, it's more about what would other people think? Or what if my content is not good enough? Or, you know, you get into this perfectionism syndrome or procrastination syndrome, which is really keeping you stuck. So how do you overcome this fear? Is Just take a blank piece of paper and I would request you to do this after we finish this podcast. Okay, Take a blank piece of paper and write down what are the top 10 problems that your target market is facing for which you have a solution? Okay, the top 10 pain points. For example, if I had to do it for my niche, I would. One of the pain points is like, how do you find, how do I find my niche? How do I design a curriculum? How do I sell through webinars? Like, all of these are very typical questions that keep coming back to me. And in fact, even this podcast topic is how do you overcome fear of making videos? Is on my pain point list. Okay? So after this podcast, I want you to make a list of top 10 pain points that your target market is facing for which you have a solution. Okay? Second step is think about how you can solve that pain or give them a solution to that pain in. In three simple steps or six simple. Six simple steps. Why three and six? These numbers are magical numbers. Okay, A triangle has three. Okay. And triangle is one of the most strongest shapes in the universe. And even hexagon is like six sided. You know, it's a shape. So even in my courses, I tell people to either share three secrets to achieving a goal or overcoming a problem or six steps to overcoming a problem. So whatever is the problem statement, see if you can break it down into six steps. Like for this particular podcast, if I had to do it, like how to overcome the fear of video making in six, in six steps. If I actually redesign this podcast according to that, it would make that content so much more consumable from a video perspective. Then I can actually share what's the first step and the second step, Third step, fourth step, fifth step and sixth step. Now, since I'm going like a free flowing podcast format, I've not done that, but if I was going to do a video, I would actually break it down into steps. Okay, so first thing is, in fact, I'm actually doing steps here. Okay. First step is get a clean sheet of paper and note down your 10 points. Second step is put each of those 10 pain points and break it down into either three steps or three secrets or six steps. Okay? And then the third step of the whole process is to then record the video. Now how do you record the video? You just take your phone and speak into it. You don't, you don't need any complicated software on any high end equipment to do this. Or just pull out your laptop, webcam and just shoot the video and just Start the video in this format. You can just say that, you know, start the video by asking the question like, the question could be like, have you been looking for a solution to this particular problem? In this video, I'm going to be sharing with you the six steps on how to solve the problem. My name is so and so. Please take notes. That's the intro, okay? Then next you explain the content, explain the six steps, and then at the end of it, you can give an outro or a call to action saying, if you found this video useful, please share your thoughts below. If you found this comment if you found this video useful, please attend my next webinar. If you found this video useful, please click on my website and register for a free goodie or giveaway. So, intro, content, outro, simple format. Okay, so I'm just going to recap. You don't need to be fearful because fear is actually your friend. Make fear your friend. Whenever you feel nervous, think about how you can serve an audience, okay? That's the foundation. First step, make 10 questions, 10 pain points. Second step, convert that into three steps or six steps. And then finally, what you got to do is record the video and put it out there. You know, you do it consistently. Post like one to two videos per week consistently, and even share that video uploaded directly on Facebook and LinkedIn other places. You will start to see the momentum like never before.
