I was born in the 80s. I remember playing a lot outside. I would be engaged in so many kind of activities where there was no technology. But I'm very concerned about this generation right now, especially Gen Alpha and Gen Z. I want to share some of my views on how they're getting affected and how we need to really step up right now and start to think about saving that next generation because they need our help and we need to think about this.
I grew up in a joint family. I still remember the kind of value system that my grandpa instilled in me. And those strong family foundations have had a, have taken me a long way. And today, when we are seeing the world with so many nuclear families, where there is no prioritization of family time, there's no interactive and discussions happening between family members, there's not many activities that are emphasizing shared values and beliefs. I believe it's time now that we all wake up and start working together. Especially if you're listening to this, if you're a parent of a kid, you're probably 35, 40 plus in age and you want to do something about this next generation. So I'm always thinking about this because I'm also a father of two boys. I'm thinking about what can I do to give them a better future and how I can leverage, you know, technology, how I can utilize what was there so that they are able to live their purpose, live their mission without getting distorted by other ideologies and stuff that happens. So I wanted to share my the 10 things here, like how what can we do to save this next generation? I want to go into the problem and I want to share the solution. So take a lot of notes and please share this podcast with somebody else who you feel can benefit from this if you've once you've heard the whole thing till the end. My name is Darth Rajsekhar and I'm recording this podcast. The Freedom is this podcast to really help people build a spiritually grounded business from the comfort of their own homes by tapping into their expertise and knowledge and building vibrant learning communities. That's what I do and that's what I teach in my community. So let's talk about how do you save this next generation? The first.
Aspect of saving the next generation is whatever I mentioned in the beginning is to bring in that storm, to bring in a strong family foundation. So if you're currently in a family, you're having one or two kids, maybe they're in their below 10 or maybe in their tweens or teens Families play a very pivotal role in transmitting values to the next generation, just like how it happened with me. So if you're not consciously transmitting value systems or what my mentor says, the code of honor with kids at a young age itself, it's going to go haywire as they grow. Now, it's not that you're going to be enforcing them with rules, but the whole aspect of prioritizing family time, having discussions, you know, doing activities that emphasize shared values and beliefs so that they can also share with them. This is something that can really, really help the next generation. Like, for example, my son is now 11 years old and I think at this point I'm recording this podcast. So I've encouraged him to also start learning and creating content. So he, along with my wife being, they have a podcast called Connect the Dots podcast. You can even search for it and subscribe. And what's happening is every single day.
Whatever he's learning in the real world, he is able to decode that and record that as a podcast. So as much as possible, as parents, what we're trying to do is emphasize the value system. Like, if he has gone through an experience, what did he learn from that? What's the value in that? Or what did he pick out of that? What has been the, you know, the outcome of what experiences that he had, whether it's in school or outside. So this is the first aspect on how do you save the next generation is to really instill a stronger family foundation. The second way to save the next generation is education itself. As we all know, the problem with the current education system that does not really cater to the holistic growth and development of a child. Because as a human, we have four dimensions. You have mental, physical, emotional and spiritual. But the formal education system is only focused on the mental dimension. There's not much happening in the other three dimensions. And though we want schools to incorporate a value based education, the curriculum emphasizing empathy, honesty, respect, social responsibility, everything is. We know that this is what needs to be there. But overall, as a systemic function, it's very difficult to, you know, change the system. Rather, the only way we can do it is to bypass the system by creating a new education system itself. By encouraging more teachers and leaders to start becoming mentors and community builders so that they can teach the next generation. So that's pretty much the mission that I'm on, is because I'm a college dropper, I don't have a degree next to my name. I want to really create something which can impact the next generation. So how do we redefine education is by creating more teachers and mentors or implementers. Which leads me to the third way on how we can save the next generation in a confused generation right now is role models. You know, there are many role models that are there in today's day and age, especially in the digital world. We have influencers, creators, Instagrammers, podcasters, and from what I can see, Gen Alpha and Gen Z, they really don't have positive role models or they look at the role models just based on their external name, fame, money, glory and all of that stuff. So if we can start to discuss with the next generation on how to be a positive role model. Okay. And ideally the best role model is you, because children often emulate the adults around them. And if you are not really being that role model to the kids, then that becomes a problem. It will affect them and it's kind of they will continue on the same track. And the other way is if you can surround them with people who uphold strong moral, ethical standards. That's also one movie to ensure that they have the right role models. And of course there are some things that you can control, some things that you cannot control. But at least discussing on this and bringing out the light and letting them realize on their own that.
If a role model is somebody worth following or not, because that's going to be impacting the way that they think and the decisions that they make as they move forward and they grow in their life. Now the fourth way to save the next generation is in some way or form, see how you can engage your children in community based activities like community service. Because right now they're all stuck to their screens, whether it's an iPad or an iPhone or whatever device that they're using. And they're just hooked into YouTube, they're hooked into gaming Roblox. And you've got so many different platforms that really distract the child from doing the real world activities. And I'm not like against gaming and all of that stuff because even I love gaming. And I know there's a lot that kids can learn in terms of critical thinking, problem solving just through gaming. But when they engage in community based activities, it kind of puts them in a zone where they see the real people, when they are able to see the humanity behind every single thing. And this also promotes a sense of belonging to and responsibility in the child. Once they are able to see that, you know, any kind of community service. And the fifth way, what I feel is how we can save the next generation is how we can Consciously limit them, limiting their exposure to any kind of degrading content, like monitoring that the media exposure, because now the exposure is on a totally different scale compared to what was in the 70s and 80s or 90s. So anything that is negative or harmful, we have to really encourage that media literacy at a young age. And in fact, this should be a part of the curriculum where the next generation needs to learn how to discern between what is constructive and degrading content, what would be the outcomes of that? And again, it begins with the adult. If you are consuming all kinds of stuff, watching the news, getting into all kinds of negative loops over there, it's going to continue. The pattern is going to continue. The next way on how to save the next generation.
Which is the sixth way, is to have more open dialogue with them. Encourage open conversations about values, about beliefs, about morals, about sex, about, again, depending on your age, because there are many things that are bottled up and they do not want to share. And when you do not allow the younger generation to ask questions or express their doubts or know, seek clarity, they look at other ways to release it, or they look at other ways where they would do things behind your back. And we've seen this happen. And so open dialogue begins with.
You taking on the position of someone who is not going to judge them for who they are, and also you taking on the position of.
Being that mentor to them without you enforcing yourself to be that mentor. It's like it's a natural process. Okay? And number seven is another way to save that next generation is to really expose them to cultural and historical awareness of maybe your own family culture, your own traditions. And when you promote this understanding and appreciation of your own culture and other cultures and the historical roots and stuff, that way they get to know one's history. And it kind of instills a sense of pride and identity and values. And that's why I always make it a point. At least once in a year, I like to take my kids to, you know, these spiritual places. I go back to my ancestral village and they get a sense of belonging and they start to appreciate that. And it also helps them get more grounded in what they're doing. Because kids who are just fully exposed to YouTube and who are completely oblivious to their own cultural systems, they start to despise the culture. And when it moves in that direction, it's like, oh, Western culture is better than the culture that we are born in. Or if they start to think in those lines, then what happens is it distorts the family in the sense the next generation will not continue some of the traditions which might have really been beneficial for the family. And they go on a totally different track. So that cultural and historical awareness is such an important aspect that, you know, we need to be conscious about. Number eight is another way you can really save this next generation is by putting them into communities and mentoring programs. Like connect them with other younger generation with mentors who can provide guidance. You know, let them join communities. Like one of the things that I do with, with my son is I allow him to crew at an event called Millionaire Mind Intensive. And he's done it maybe four or five times where he just goes there and serves. And while he's not going through a mentoring program, he's actually going through a community service combined with mentoring that's happening. So those experiences have really instilled positive vibes and value systems and it really sets a very strong foundation. So the best part is today we have so many communities online and just plug them into one of these communities, it's going to help them a lot. Number nine is if you want to save the next generation, you got to really teach them how to deal with conflicts, okay. How to have empathy for others. And it also starts at home. So if your home is very toxic and there's a lot of fights happening within your own home, they're going to see that and they're going to be emulating that possibly in their own life. So how do you break that pattern is by equipping the next generation with the skills to handle conflicts in an amicable way. Emphasizing and emphasizing on understanding people.
Empathy and also.
Helping them realize what does it mean to have mutual respect for each other without any judgments and stuff. You know, this whole aspect of kind heartedness.
To be instilled in young generation is so important. And I think if we can just get this one point right, the world is going to be so much more peaceful. Yeah. And finally, the tenth point on how I believe we can change the next generation and save them is.
Really promote the ethical consumption. Like educate the younger generation about the impact of their consumption choices, especially on society and the environment. Like fostering a sense of responsibility towards global issues. Like there are so many things that one can consume, like buying stuff. But when you make them think about where is it coming from, do they just want to buy a piece of tech or they want to buy something on Amazon? Like educate them on the impact of that consumption choices, what is it going to do to the environment? Where is it going to lead them to like? And when you do that.
At a very young age, what happens is they will start to think more from that perspective and they'll make better choices, which is going to help not just their generation, but the generation after theirs, which is another concern. So unless we do something about it right now, things are not going to change. So these are the points that I thought about and I thought I'll share in this particular podcast.
