Siddharth Rajsekar argues that material goals become spiritually meaningful when they serve others and a higher cause. He outlines six goal areas—financial, relationship, career, health, creativity, contribution—and offers concrete practices: donate a portion of profits, view relationships as shared spiritual journeys, treat your body as an instrument. The key is detachment and having a mission beyond yourself.

How do you set material goals that make you spiritually happy? That's the topic of this podcast. And after spending over 20 years practicing spirituality in my life and also bringing that into my business, I thought it's a very interesting and important topic for many entrepreneurs, aspiring entrepreneurs, as well as spiritual folks who sometimes don't see value in starting a business or doing anything materialistic. So I want to be breaking down the materialistic way of things, the difference between materialism and spiritualism, and how I believe you can actually set goals that can fulfill and make you even spiritually happy, even though it's material in the external world. My name is Siddharth Rajar. I'm the founder of the Internet Lifestyle Hub and the creator of this podcast. But I'm on a mission to help a million people live a lifestyle of freedom. Let's get in.

Topic, which is how do you connect materialism with spiritualism? Or how do you set material goals that make you spiritually happy? Now let's first understand what is the core essence, irrespective of what your religion, what your faith, what your belief system is.
Materialism is the material body, which is the five elements of which it's made of and the true essence of spirituality, irrespective of what culture or religion or faith that you follow. The crux is this. We are not this body, but we are the soul. We are an eternal being that transmigrates from one body to the next. And based on what we think of at the time of passing from one to the next, which is transmigration, we acquire that body and that creates a new life. Now, people who don't believe in reincarnation as a concept, I mean, you can go into your research, and there's enough and more case studies that are out there which have proven this and even the whole aspect of how some people are born into this world with unique talents and abilities at such a young age, how some people in this world have incredible amount of.
Memory and retention capacity as compared to others, and why some people are born with various different ailments and physical disorders in their birth. And all of this, you know, culminates in the whole concept of karma, where you're. Where that particular soul is carrying forward whatever they have left off in their previous life based on their actions. And this is just a reaction to that. So that being the crux of the whole concept of material versus spiritual, Ultimately, we are born with nothing, and we leave this world with nothing. And the only thing that we carry forward are our desires, our Mental state, our spiritual credits and the service that we have done to people and the people that we've impacted and the service that we have done to the, to our Creator. Now if you look at any faith or any tradition, whatever I've shared till now, it's pretty much in sync. The processes and the system of worship can change. There are some processes that are non religious spirituality and there are some processes that are more religious spirituality which are coming down traditions. So let's first understand what is the nature of the soul. Like before we get into how to set material goals to make you spiritually happy, let's understand what is the nature of the soul that is keeping us inside. The soul is what really gives us the consciousness. And some people think that animals don't have soul, but animals also. I mean, soul is the existence of the soul.
Is a consciousness. The proof of the soul's existence is the consciousness in the body. When the soul leaves the body, there is no consciousness in the body. And that's where, that's what differentiates just gross material things and the material thing with the soul inside it, like our human body, we're able to do things, we're able to create things. So let's understand what is the nature of the soul. The nature of the soul is it's eternal, it is all blissful. And it is. And it's full of knowledge and knowledge. It's all covered by the various coverings of our own desires and our different actions that we, that we do. So just as how sweetness is the integral, you know, property of sugar. If you take away sweetness from sugar, sugar is not sugar, okay? So just like the innate quality of sugar is sweetness, similarly the innate quality of the soul is to do service, okay, Service. Now the question is, whom do you serve? And if you look at everybody in this world who's alive and you know, their soul is in a body and who are alive, they are doing service. They are either serving oneself or they are serving their family, or they are serving their community, or they are serving their boss, or they are serving their country. And the ultimate is service to the Creator himself, the universe. You want to call it universe or God, or you have a form that you, that you're serving. So the whole principle of, you know, based on what I've studied over the years, you know, studying various cultures also and having philosophical debates and discussions with, with my colleagues during my years of deep scriptural study, I've come to understand that when you pour water in the root of the tree, everything else gets fulfilled in other words, when you are able to directly serve the creator of the universe, whether you want, whether you have, Whether you look at that as a. As a personal form or as an impersonal form or a light or something like that, when you're able to acknowledge and do and serve that higher force.
Everything else gets fulfilled. Okay? Like in a tree, if you just want to pour, pour water on the leaf, yes, it may get some benefit, but the better thing is to pour water in the root. So the nature of the soul is to serve others, but whom to serve matters most and those people who are more. If you look at the animalistic form of life, animals, they live in constant fear and anxiety, and they only serve themselves and their own family. So there's eating, sleeping, mating, and defending. These are the four activities that all animals do. And if we are also human, if we as humans are doing the same four things, eating, sleeping, mating, and defending, and not really probing into these higher questions of life, then we are only a sophisticated animal. So what differentiates us from animals is this particular factor to understand what is our purpose? What's the nature of the soul? What is the journey of the soul? What are we supposed to do? And to really transcend the different cycles of birth and death. So coming back to the point is, before we set material goals to be spiritually happy, we need to understand what really makes us spiritually happy. What makes us spiritually happy is service not just to oneself or the family or the community or the country, but service to the Creator. Okay, so, and the beautiful thing is when it comes to, you know, setting material goals or making, you know, for more spiritual and internal happiness, just like how when you get into an airplane, people just. They tell you that you first need to put oxygen for yourself before you can, you know, give it to your kid if something goes wrong in the plane. You know, you need to first get oxygen, mask oxygen for yourself. You got to put the oxygen for yourself before you can help others. So it's very important is before you can go to help others, you got to really give yourself that oxygen first. You really need to understand what is your purpose first before you can help others achieve their goals, before you can go and serve others. So in other words, when you are setting goals or material goals for spiritual fulfillment and happiness, you need to understand the bigger picture of things that, yes, we are not this body, we are the soul. The nature of the soul is to serve others, and that's what really gives fulfillment. Now, when you note that, okay, of course, the nature of the soul is to fill, is to. Is to serve our supreme Creator. That's what gives the actual fulfillment, not like pouring water on a leaf. Once you understand this principle, and also the principle that you got to put in oxygen for yourself first, you got to work on yourself, you really need to nourish your soul first before you can, you know, think about doing things for others. Then you'll be able to set goals. Okay? And there are six kinds of goals that you can actually set. Number one is you can set financial goals. So let's say you want to achieve, you know, 3 lakhs per month, or 5 lakhs a month or 10 lakhs per month. Now you have these financial goals which are technically material goals, but connected to the financial goal. If you can give like, okay, I'm going to be giving away 10% after paying 10% of my profits towards charity regularly. So that becomes, you know, there's an element of service over there and maybe a portion of it going towards, you know, all of these different areas. So how do you serve oneself? Like with the financial, financial money coming into your bank account, how you can serve yourself, how you can serve your family, how you can serve your community, how you can add value to your country, and how you can also add the element of God or the creator of the universe. Okay, so you're actually adding an element of service into your financial goals and making that into a system. So when you are actually pursuing or growing a business with those kind of goals, it will actually also give you spiritual fulfillment. And because it is not just about you, okay, you're serving yourself. You're putting oxygen for yourself first, but you're also extending it and moving it, you know, outwards, yourself, your family, community, country, and God in the universe. Same with relationship goals. You know, when you said relationship goals, you get married, you make the vows, and you know, when you are able to value your partner and you're committed to your partner and irrespective of how the relationship is going.
And you're able to look at your partner as a way, as a person who's helping you, a fellow, you know, person on your spiritual journey. Now, even though whether they may be or may not be spiritually inclined, you have got together for a purpose and you need to, like, decode that purpose and you've got to communicate that. So the relationship, either it's a spouse or a husband, wife, or a mother, daughter, mother, son, father, son, father, daughter, all these relationships, also being able to look at others as also a soul that you have brought into this world especially there are children and how you can give them the value system so that they can be better, you know, value givers to this planet for which they're born. Now that will be a very noble relationship goal that you can have and how you can make your relationship with your spouse more enriching so that both of you can grow together. Okay? And this will actually move, it'll transcend the material thing. Because material relationships, if it's only based on the externals, there's going to be, you know, an expiry date on that, which means that people who just get in just for the looks, where the focus is just on lust, after some time they're going to get bored and then they're going to find another partner. And that's not true relationships. True relationships are deeper than just this. We are looking at how, if you can understand that the other person is also a soul with a purpose born into this world to fulfill a particular journey. And if you can start to align your relationship and set relationship goals on how you can fulfill each other's purposes, irrespective by being, by having mutual love and respect for each other, you will not only have a deeper connection physically, but and emotionally and mentally and even spiritually. So it has to start from the spiritual side. Okay. And then we have career goals, people who want to grow in their careers. Yes, you may want to, you know, grow in your career or achieve big things. But again, if you can connect your spiritual goal, your career goals also with a spiritual purpose, that's going to have full, that's going to be fulfillment at some point. Same with your health goals. There are many people who just want to be healthy just because they want to add, you know, add some six pack abs so they can attract the opposite sex or they want to just, you know, look at the health goal as a way to enjoy more in the material bodily situation. And of course there's going to be an expiry date to that also. You cannot really sustain that. But if you still have a, if you have a health goal, on how you can look at your body as an instrument given by the Creator so that you can do amazing work in this world and you're able to look at it from a larger view, a different lens or a different perspective, you will be able to really, you know, set those material goals for spirit to be more spiritually internally happy. Same with creativity goals. You may be born with some talents like music or art or whatever. In one sense, there are a lot of people who use their creative abilities and arts just for their own intellectual stimulation, their own intellectual sense gratification. But when you can turn that creative ability and talents to, you know, serving more people, helping more people, and of course, channeling those creative energies back to, you know, fulfilling your connection or re establishing a connection with the Supreme Creator or the Supreme Being or whichever form that you, that you connect with that will give you fulfillment and internal purpose. So again, all of these, there's a very fine line between whether you're doing it for yourself or you're doing it for, for the higher cause. Okay. Of course contribution goals is. Number six is what goals can you set so that you can give back to oneself, you can give back to your family, you can give back to a community, give back to country, and give back to God and the Creator, which was the higher force. So to really close the loop on this topic, you can set material goals that can make you spiritually happy. When you are able to look at.
Everything through the lens that we are not this body. Okay. The minute you start to think that we are this body, then everything get becomes more self centered. Okay. And a few pointers I want to share with you. When it comes to mindset like how to really build a super successful business, keeping these things in mind is, you know, building a business daily with a level of detachment. Don't worry too much about the results, but just put in whatever effort that you have to put into to carry it forward. And because when it comes to a topic like this, there has to be both effort and grace. Effort from your side. Like look at the typical materialist way of thinking is just hustle, hustle, hustle, hustle. Everything's only focusing on just effort. But there is a higher factor also, what I call as grace. So you need both effort from your side and grace from the higher power. That's going to help you move forward. So it's best to build your business with a sense of detachment where you're doing your actions every single day and you're not worrying too much about the results. The results have to come. Let them come. If it's going to take some time, let it take its time. But. But you need to be on it, doing whatever you have to do on a daily basis. Okay. The second concept is dovetailing. Okay. So dovetailing is how you can blend both spirituality and materialism in one. So for example, if you have to go for a vacation with your family and give them an amazing experience. Yeah. Take them to different parts of the world. But Give your family also a spiritual angle. Let your children learn lessons, life lessons on, you know, by visiting cultural centers of heritage so they understand the bigger picture of things. So you're giving the same experience where a typical materialist would just look at how they can enjoy it and get back and share pictures on Instagram and get those 2, 300 likes on their vacation pics. But that same experience can be turned into a spiritually enlivening experience for your family if you're able to bring those elements in. And that's how I've been trying to do that with my family. Okay. And then the third concept is minimalism. If you look at it, a typical materialist wants to hoard things and just get more and more things for themselves because they feel that we are the body. We want to do everything for ourselves, we want to hold. But I've adopted the whole concept of minimalism. But I want to have less for myself. I just wear the few Nike shirts and stuff like that. And I love this concept of having less and doing more. So I'm not really attached to things. I have the best of things, but I have very less. And I'm not really connected or not really focused on, you know, attaching myself to things. That's why the whole concept of minimalism was such a brilliant, you know, addition into my life ever since I adopted it. The other thing about your mindset is you need to have a higher mission and cause. And usually this mission and cause cannot be. Some people may not have clarity about it. And I have to thank my spiritual master who gave me that. That vision and the cause for me to do what I'm doing right now. Yes. So I've been brought up in a. In a spiritual culture, and he opened my eyes to through, you know, by looking at the world through a different lens. He's an embodiment of love and compassion. And I really have to attribute that. If I'm speaking anything right now on this particular topic, it is only because of his influence on me and the clarity that he has given me over the years of. Through practice. It is not just through intellectual study, but it is through practice and through, you know, realization of few concepts from within. It is not an intellectual. You know, I'm not sharing this with you just on a head level. There's a. There's a lot of heart also. So when you have a higher mission or cause that gets uncovered through your own spiritual practices, that will give you more inner fulfillment to set material goals. And ultimately, the thing is, we are in a constant state. I want you to think about your heart being like a mirror which is covered by dust and the more you can clean the mirror of your heart through whichever process that you follow, the more you'll be able to look from within and operate from that. From that zone of pure love and consciousness that will really not only give you the fulfillment but it'll make the people around you and the world around you a much better place. So pretty interesting topic on how to set material goals that can make you spiritually happy. I've just given you my perspective of things. It may not be the perspective. Some of you may have different opinions and yeah I respect that each one of us have our own ideologies and this is what I had to share from my side. If you found this useful, please share your notes below and I'm looking forward to sharing more insights like this in my future episodes. Cheers. God bless and catch you in the next one.
