Why Most People Lie To Themselves
30 Jul 2022 · 5 min
Siddharth Rajsekar argues that saying "I want to" without acting is self-deception. Real desire produces action. He uses marriage, business, and health as examples of how a split-second decision can trigger change, and says the real barrier is usually fear or social pressure, not lack of desire.

You know, whenever I hear people say that I really want to do something, I really want to do something, you know, they actually do not. And here's the logic. You know, if somebody really wanted to do something in their life, maybe start a business or start exercising or eat more healthy, lose weight or whatever, right? If they really wanted to do that something, they would already be doing it. And by them just saying that I want to do it, they actually do not. And the logic behind it is this. You know, a lot of things in our life, I mean, things go by, we keep making excuses to ourselves saying that, you know, it takes time, it takes time, or the right time has to come, or, you know, the planets have to align or whatever. But you know what? It only takes a moment's decision to make things happen. Just think about it. If any of you here are married, it just took that split second decision for you to say yes to your fiance. Okay? That was a time factor to explore the relationship. And that was a. Probably, that would have been a courtship period. But this. But the second the decision was made, it was done right. It was a split second decision. So a lot of people who say that they. That they really want to do something, they really want to start a business, they really want to be successful, they really want to be more healthy, they need. They want to start exercising, they actually do not. Because if they really wanted to do it, they would already be doing it. Now, the second part of this whole thought process is, why do they say it then? Okay, And I'm putting myself in my, you know, in that situation where previously I should say that I want to launch a business, I want to do something of my own, but due to society's pressures and I wanted to look good in the eyes of society, I just never had the courage to make that decision at that point of time. Okay?
So that was a time factor. So my message to you today in this podcast is if you've been pushing things forward for a long time, you probably need to question yourself on why you do not want to do that thing, even though you keep telling the world that you want to do it. Okay? And once you understand the actual stumbling block, which is mostly your own fear, or could be just fear of what other people think of, fear of conforming to society. Once you are able to understand what it is, just make the split second decision.
And set it into action and just move forward and you don't have to tell anybody about what you're doing, okay? For a lot of things, I just do it and Then I tell them that I've done it. Right now I'm taking up, you know, that kind of an approach to my life because I don't want to announce to anyone or just tell anybody that, hey, I really want to do this.
That's not the space to be in. So you'd rather be in a space where you plan to do something, you do it and then you tell the world I've done it.
You know, sometimes that first step, that's the hardest thing. And after having read, heard, watched like a big load of stuff in the personal development world and over the last many, many years and gone through so much, it just comes down to one thing. If you really want to do something, you will find a way. If you don't, you'll find an excuse. Period. End of the story. If you understand this one thing to the depth of what it really is, your life will change. And I want to throw the question back into you. What do you think about this? Does it make sense? Does it make sense on the fact that if somebody says that I want to do something, they actually do not want to do it? I hope this was a bulb on moment for you. Please share your comments below on what has been your biggest takeaways from this particular episode. Those just three to four minutes and I want you to reflect on this and if you're listening to this on my podcast on my blog sadharachikar.com I would like you to share below on what is that one thing you've been telling the world that you wanted to do but you've not done? And be open and honest about it. And I would like you to make a commitment to actually start working on that because that is going to make a big difference to your life and I would recommend that you start living your life in such a way where you do the things and then you announce it to the world. Or in other words stop complaining about why you always wanted to do that one thing which you actually don't. Wish you all the best and catch you in the next episode.
