Why Most Systems Break as They Grow

Siddharth Rajsekar argues that systems fail not from bad ideas but from creeping complexity. Find the smallest version that works, then ask what must get simpler to run smoothly for the next five years. Simplicity scales. Complexity doesn't.

Most things don't fail because they are bad ideas. They fail because they become too complicated to sustain. More rules, more steps, more systems layered on top of systems. Complexity often feels like progress, right? But what I've realized that it quietly increases only the fiction. And fiction is what kills momentum over time. Complexity feels intelligent. It gives the illusion of control. It makes you feel busy. And it feels like you're doing something important when it's complex. But complexity doesn't scale well because it demands constant attention. Simple systems run without supervision. Complex systems demand you every single day. I learned this the hard way. Whenever something started working, my instinct was to add something more. More features, more variations, more options. And each addition made it harder to maintain. Honestly, the biggest breakthroughs for me, it came when I removed, instead of adding things to it. And when I asked questions like this. Questions like what's the smallest version of this that still works? That's when things began to scale without me burning out. Simplicity does not mean minimalism, for sure. Simplicity means fewer decisions, clear defaults, repeatable actions and systems that survive bad days. Simplicity respects your future energy. According to me, it's a form of kindness to yourself and what you're actually building. I want to leave you with this one question. If this had to run smoothly for the next five years, what would need to be simpler? Because scale doesn't come from doing more. It comes from removing what doesn't multiply. Simple things last, and what lasts quietly becomes powerful. I hope this inspired you and let's build this together.
