Brent Kelly argues that who you are matters more than what you do. Drawing on John Maxwell's Law of Magnetism, he shows how character and mindset determine who you attract in life and business, and shares a daily journaling practice: ask yourself what you intend to be today.

To be or not to be. That is the question. No, it really is the question that I want to discuss in today's Daily Biz Growl. Hello there. Hello there. This is Brent Kelly of Bizgriz with another Daily Biz Growl podcast. One of the greatest lessons I continue continue to learn in life is that who you are is who you attract. Think about the people who you have influence with in your life and of course, in your business. Why do you have influence with them? Yes, sometimes it may be due to bloodlines, AKA nepotism, or business positions, but most often they have been positively influenced by you because of who you are. In the Law of Magnetism from John Maxwell's awesome book, the 21 irrefutable laws of Leadership, John states this. He says, who you attract is not determined by what you want. It's determined by who you are. Ooh. Who you attract is not determined by what you want. It's determined by who you are. See, I'm a natural doer. I'm an action taker. I want to get things done. If there's a problem in business, I want to work on it at home. If my wife or my children are dealing with a difficult issue, I want to fix it. What I continue to learn in my own growth journey is that sometimes the real solutions are not in the actions, but in your state of mind. To give you an example, I've had failed training programs that I thought failed because of my poor actions. But when I looked deeper, I realized the heart of the failure wasn't so much the content that could be part of the issue, but the overall reason was due to my lack of confidence. I have provided what I thought were solutions for my wife, only to realize that she wasn't looking for a solution or a fix, but rather just a listener. Here's the point I want to make. Doing is great, but before you can do, you must first be When I started working with my own business coach, I was asked to journal every day and answer a list of questions in my journal. And although one of the questions was based on my day's intentions, what was I going to do? The very first question I had to answer, and I still continue to answer every single day when I wake up, is, what do you intend to be today? Now, when I began to answer this question, I thought it was weird at best and ridiculous at worst. Like, who cares what I'm going to be today? What do you mean I'm going to be today? I just need to know what I need to do. However, as weeks and now months have gone by. I fully appreciate and understand the purpose of setting my intentions each day on what I want to be like. For me, leading a train or leading a training workshop is doing. That's what I'm going to lead a training workshop. Being passionate and confident in my content is my being. Conducting a coaching call with a client is doing. Being fully present and curious is being. See, your doing is important, but your being will set the tone for who you are and who you attract. My challenge for you, the listener on this, is for you not just to focus on what tasks and duties or activities you need to complete each and every day, but to set your daily attentions on your attitude and mindset in doing those functions. If you don't like the people you are attracting to your business and your life, it's likely less based on your actions and more on your character. Final question who is your being attracting?
