Chapters
Hi, YouTube. All right, so my name is Stacey Lauren and I am the host of the do the Thing podcast and also the do the Thing dating experiment. I run challenges in my community and I have integrated a formula that helps people do the thing. I discovered the formula through my podcast and interviewed people who have gone after really big things. And it's been amazing because through person after person, I realized there were these common patterns for how they were able to do the things that they want. And all of a sudden, after like 80 interviews, I saw the patterns come up over and over again. And I wrote each pattern on an index card and I put them on my table and I saw the words take shape. The words were I'm game and it's an acronym. And the I stands for identify the why. The why. Why do you want to do the thing in the first place? What's going to keep you going when it's hard? And then the M in I'm is mindset. One of the most common things that we do in the do the Thing community is we find out what are your excuses for not being able to do it? Is it time? Is it money? Is it fear? Is it perfection? What's going to come up so then you can already decide how you're going to handle it when the thing comes up so you're not burning energy in the moment of being able to do it. And there's so many other things with mindset, but that's a key one that we like to do. And then the G in game is goals. Goals are like really sometimes specific, but other times it can just be a rough draft goal. You could just have an idea of something that you want to do. And then the A in game is accountability. And that's where you can do internal accountability with yourself. You could do check marks. You could just know that that's what you want to do and follow through with it. Or you can get different levels of external accountability and be able to do it that way. And then the M in game is my people. My people is different than like minded people. A lot of people talk about the five people that you want to have around you that are supportive and encouraging. But my people are people that are doing the same thing as you, that want the same thing, and they really give you the community and the connectedness that you need to be able to grow and do the thing you want. And so it's kind of like my best example is if you want to run a marathon and if you have supportive and encouraging friends, it's hard to run if they're not runners. You kind of need to be around, around runners. So do the thing does that with the community because that gets you around my people. And then the E in game is educate. And that's where you get to educate yourself through YouTube videos, podcasts, books, mentors, coaches. However you can learn, learn it. And then the other part in educate is educating others. And this is key, key. This is what gives you the contribution and the fulfillment back. And it kind of reinforces your learning as well, because you're able to educate other people on how you did the thing. And this goes with anything. You don't have to be an expert to teach. You could just be two or three weeks ahead of someone who hasn't done it yet, and you already know more than them. So just consider that for a minute. If you know something and someone else is brand new, you can already be teaching that thing that you want to do. And so we have a go Live challenge. That's why this is my First Live on YouTube, which is really exciting in the do the thing community. And every day we're going to go live on different challenges. We actually are different channels. We actually just went live on Instagram and I wanted to. One of the members had actually gone live on YouTube and I wanted to do that as well because I felt like I was nervous and I thought that I should just get it over with so I could do it for the first time. So I'm excited to be here. I have my do the thing swag on and do the thing. Don't wait for opportunity. Create it. And I put the link to the do the thing Go Live challenge. So if you're seeing this around, whatever today is, I don't even have the date on me. What is today? July something. July 17th. If you're seeing this July 17th, then come join the challenge. We would love to have you. And I'll say it again. Do the thing. Don't wait for opportunity. Create it.
