Mare Brighton: How to Activate Your Dreams (and Lift Others Along the Way)

A conversational YouTube interview (Stacey Lauren interviewing Mare Brighton) about "dreamlifting": a group-based practice of listing and sharing personal dreams so they get seen, supported, and activated. Brighton recommends keeping a living list of 50 "living intentions" plus a done list and a waiting list, using short guided exercises (an hour boot camp and a 10-day review) to surface priorities, and both giving and receiving support in a safe group. The video includes personal stories showing how shared dreams led to real outcomes and closes with a nudge/invitation to post dreams and join a boot camp on April 15.

Hey, everybody, we are going to use this time on this video to take you from a dare doer to a dream lifter. And I brought on my fair. My fair. I brought on my friend Mayor. I was like rhyming friend with Mayor. I brought on my friend Mayor because she is a certified Dreamlifter. And the. Are you the originator of the Dreamlifters and the OG of like the seed that has begun the dream lifting, which I think. But who knows, by the time you're watching this video, there could be hundreds of dream lifters because that's something she's working on doing, also certifying people to, to understand this methodology. So with that, we're giving you a dare that was just inspired from doing the find your voice challenge in the hearts connect community. And this is what Mayor had said. Was this your. What is. Oh, your book. Her book would be. Was. Was this. And so we decided to basically turn this into not a dare, but a nudge because a dream lifter nudges. So, Mayor, I'd love you to introduce yourself and then we'll talk about what this nudge is.
Sure. Thank you. My, my name is Mayor. I am a dreamlifter. I help people power up and activate their bucket lists. And I've been doing it for 30 years. It's about giving our dreams a voice and it is encouraging people to have 50 dreams activated at a time. And also having a done list and a waiting list so that when you move something off your list of 50 into the done or the not for me anymore and you just let it go, you have a waiting list of things you can read and then so the list of 50, I call them living intentions. Our dreams are living intentions. It's a living list. And what that means is it's always alive. And I believe that humans are not singular and that we have a lot of roles. And depending on how old you are, if you only had one dream for every year you are old, you have more than one dream a year. And so I invite you to identify the 50 and share it in a safe group so that your dreams get seen and heard and fueled while you are also listening to somebody read their list or reading their list and then choosing to support them in their dream. So the nudge is what are your current 50 living intentions or dreams?
So good. So what, how can they get started with this? What would be a way for them to, like, access that part? Because sometimes it's hard to like, see your dreams.
Yeah, it is. So what? I, I have a series of questions that I take people through. I think that in my. I offer a dream lifting office hour once a week on Tuesdays. I think what I'm going to do, since we're doing this nudge, is to take people through an hour boot camp. And the boot camp is asking questions and they're just going to be writing answers down. By the time they're done, they'll have way more than 50 things. And then I'll invite them to choose 50 of those items. Like what you do is you read everything that comes out of that hour boot camp for I suggest 10 days, whatever people want to do. And then the 50 that will, they will rise. The 50 that are the most important to who you're being in this moment. You'll know what the 50 are.
Yeah.
So, yeah, I can, I can help people start. It gets, it's just a starting place. It's a living list. You get to change your mind. You have permission to change your mind. And when people are not feeling like them, their best selves, I invite them and you're playing with me. You're in my circles. I invite you to read your done list because when you start reading your done list, the things that you have accomplished or that you're proud of in your life, even if I took you through one for every year you are old, you tell me, you know, the highlight of each year you will be blown away at how awesome you are because you get to see yourself in a different place because you're, you're saying it out loud to me or whoever that you're sharing it with. So the frequency of your own voice activates your energetic fields and you get to see yourself and how awesome you are.
I love that because it's so often we like kind of like don't notice the things we have achieved. Right. Like from our dreams. And so what you're doing is you're reactivating dreams by showing you what you've already achieved.
Yes. It's. It's saying, you know, because sometimes people go, oh, I can never be this or have that or do blah blah, blah, blah, blah. And then like really? Let's take a look. Yeah. At who you've been in this lifetime and what have you been able to accomplish or navigate, rise above? Find out, discover. It's. Who have you inspired?
Yeah.
Who's inspired you? Like, it's, it, it's so deep, it's so rich. And I believe that when you get clear on what your current dreams are and you share them in a safe group, those Dreams actually get fueled and happen faster than if you're doing it by yourself. So that's part of the nudge. But you have to know what they are. Yeah, you have to know what they are. And that's really, that's what happened for me. So about 30 years ago, I heard a story about two girls. One was telling the story of how they met in High School. 14 year olds, at least in my experience, girls talk a lot about their dreams. You know, what do they want their wedding to be like, if they want to get married, what do they want to do when they grow up, what clothes do they want to wear? What, you know, what did, where do they want to. Whatever. I mean, it just is on and on and on and on. And this girl wanted, her dream was to go to Europe. That was her dream. And so she enrolled her friends into every adventure being connected to Europe. So one example is that they talk their moms into taking them to a five star hotel to have a high tea experience. But the story they told their friends is that they had tea with the Queen of England. Another example, I don't know, New York. They lived in New York. I lived in Denver. Denver has a stock show because cattle drives would move cattle into Denver where there were trains and then the trains would take the cattle to different places in the US So they have this show every year around cattle. And so this girl invited her friends to go wear their cowboy boots and their hats and bring a clipboard. And they chose the bulls that were going to run in the running of the bulls in Spain. That's how she connected the adventure to Europe. Fast forward. She's married. Her husband's company sends them to Paris for a conference. And she's going to fly over and meet him at the end of the conference and get her first stamp in her passport. And the plane blows up over the ocean and everyone perishes. It's Pan Am something. You can look it up. It really happened. But her friend is telling the story from the standpoint of my friend lived her dream every day. She lived her European dream every day. And it rocked me. I didn't know what my dream was. I have six sisters. I had no idea what their dreams were. I didn't know what my mom's dreams were. I didn't know what my friend's dreams were. I was making up that I was a terrible person because I wasn't supporting the European dream of my siblings. My mom, my. And that's how this was born. I, I asked them to give me 10 things they wanted to do in their life, and I pasted them on the back of my door. And every day before I went to school or work, my roommate, my college roommate and I would read somebody's 10 things and go out and live, you know, go out into the world. Well, what happens when you read somebody's dreams is they become entrained in your own awareness and your reticular, activated part of your brain begins to show you things that could support somebody else's dream. One thing that's happened over the years, I don't know why, in the groups that I'm in, somebody wants to swim with dolphins. I used to do a lot of traveling for work. And in the olden days, in the backseat of a airplane pocket would be two magazines. One was a travel magazine, and the other one was this magazine of crazy gidgets and gadgets. The travel magazine almost always had an advertisement for swimming with the dolphins. And so I would take that magazine to the hotel, I would tear out that piece, and I would say, stacy, when are you going to swim with the dolphins? Thinking about you supporting your dream mayor. Right? Like, that's it. That's how I nudged. That's how I supported. So it's. It doesn't have to cost money. It can cost money, but most of this dreamlifting is not about money. It's about witnessing the person's dream by listening to it, by reading it, by asking the questions. What. When are you. Is this still on your list? What step are you taking towards swimming with the dolphins? I changed my mind. I don't want to get wet. Okay, what's the new dream? Right. You have permission to change your mind.
I love that.
So I invite people to have 50 dreams going at the same time.
So good. I feel like I'm trying to think of, like, how to incorporate this in with. Because with find your voice we have. I don't remember which dare it is, but one of the dares is what is your biggest dream? This might be fun to play with it somewhere where a dreamlifter comes in during that one dare, you know, and. And maybe lifts that dream somehow.
Well, the nudge could be lift somebody's dream, right? Like, so, like, what if people shared what their biggest dream is? Then the next thing is a nudge, not a dare. And the nudge is reflect back on people's dreams and dreamlift somebody's. You know, it could be that they say, okay, so this is. This one really happened in real life. Somebody wanted to meet a hockey star, like a specific One.
Right.
And she put it on her list.
Right.
She goes to dinner with her husband, and her husband bumps into this guy in the bathroom, and her husband knew that this guy was on her list, and so she got to meet him because her husband knew what was on her dream list and he bumped into the guy. So it happened.
This is.
It's on her done list. Cool.
It's like, like, yeah. Like what you were saying with your sisters. It just makes so much sense, you know, Like, I'm thinking of my boyfriend right now and my daughter and like, I know some of her dreams, but I don't know a hundred of them or even 10 of them, you know, And I'd be like, I feel like this should be something that we all talk about, you know, and we're like. We're like having it right in front of us.
I didn't know my mom was a person until I read her dreams and then was able to participate in helping some of. Well, every dream she put on her first list came true. All of it. Because as, you know, sisters, we could then see what our mom's dreams were. And then together we, like, she wanted to ride in a hot air balloon. That was one of them. Like, so we made that happen. But we wouldn't have known that. I didn't know that that was one of my mom's dreams. And. Yeah. So, yes, I met my mother as a person and not just as a mom. I've met my sisters as people, not just sisters. Yeah, I have. Yeah. I'm so grateful. I don't have to guess anymore. I don't have to make up the stories of what somebody wants or thinks. I know that if I'm going to dreamlift or support somebody and I read their list, I'm actually feeding. Fueling something that matters to them and. And not making it up.
Yeah.
Does it make sense?
Totally makes sense. Yeah. So what happens then after they do this nudge and they're going to do their hundred dreams, are they then? Because I know you have a dream nudge challenge. You have. You have lots of different offerings and things, but do they then make a decision and they're like, I want to be the one that gets dreamlifted or I want to be the dream lifter. Like, how does that, how does that, like, come up for them?
So I invite people to do both.
Right.
Because I think that asking for what you need and being open to receive what you're asking for is a skill and it gets fed by your giving. So dream lifting is giving but asking and receiving actually makes your giving more powerful. Because if you're the person who says, oh, no, no, give that piece of cake to this person or oh, no, no, I don't give it. To give it to this person or that person. Not. Not me, not me. Right. Then when you give, it's toxic because there's con. Conditions in your giving.
Right.
See me. See me as a good person because I can't see myself as a good person. No, clean it up. Give with your heart. And then that opens energetically, a receiver for you to ask for what you want and need. That's where the list comes in. Right. Like you're saying what your dream is. You don't have to keep it if you find out. You know what? That's actually not mine. That's what my mom or society wanted for me.
Yeah.
For me to be a good cook in order to be in a happy, healthy marriage or get a man.
Right.
That was literally on my first list. It was learning how to cook, because I made up that being a good cook was how you got a husband.
Yeah.
So not true. I am not a good cook. And I am in a crazy, happy, healthy marriage. Crazy. It's awesome. And I don't know how to cook.
That's so good.
So it's not on my list. Right. Because it wasn't mine, it was society's.
It's so funny. This is the whole part of what I've been doing. I don't know if you. If I've talked about this yet, but, like, with do the thing, when I first started, I was like, I want to help people overcome the mental baggage that gets in their way of doing the thing. But it was by, like, the 11th episode was when I realized, oh, I've always done the thing, but I haven't done it from my own, like, kind of my own narrative of what I wanted. And so that's where find your voice comes in. So this is such a good, like, matching, you know, Whereas, like, find your voice helps you tap into who you are, what you want, getting courageous enough to declare it and own it. And now we get to. Now we get to really kind of make our dreams happen through these nudges, you know? And then. The dream lifter.
Yep. Yes. It all. It all works in concert.
It does. I feel like I want to play with our dreams. Can we. Can we take a few minutes and do that? Just do. Okay. You want to name some of yours just to help people, like, kind of start to.
Yeah. So I. I have a Focus. Every month, I. So I take one of my dreams and I podcast. So I talk about what my dream was for March and what my dream is for April with, you know, so March is over. I talk about what I chose and why and what happened. Right. And then my one for April is that I'm someone who works with a coach. I'm someone who works with a coach. And so what happens in the Stacy verse is that I get connected with Emily and then I sign up for her academy. So I am now working with a sales coach. Right. Manny is a coach. Right. Like, so signing up to be part of his challenge, which I want to sign up for, but PayPal doesn't. So that's one of my obstacles. Right. PayPal's not working, so Emily's helping me. I'm going to. I'm going to. I'm figuring out a different way to pay and play.
Right.
Because. Because the front door didn't work for me.
Yeah.
But I'm someone who works with a coach.
Yeah.
Someone who works with a coach. I signed up for Alison Wonders Gar to help me create a TEDx talk. I might not do a TEDx talk, but what I am going to have is a five to eight minute speech. So when somebody asks me what is dreamlifting? Right. Then the words will flow and I don't have to get stuck in an energetic download where I'm pausing and having to translate the information that's coming in into an analogy that an audience can digest.
Yeah.
So one of my dreams is I'm someone who works with a coach.
I love that. It's so brilliant because it kind of like translates to a lot of your dreams too, right. Where you're able to do that. So good. Yeah. I've got this couple things coming up in my mind. It's funny. Yeah. You've been dreamlifting. One of my dreams, which is to license these challenges so then more people will understand the whole idea of how important a group is and how you can feel the sense of belonging and love and safety through a group. And that's what I kind of see as the challenge being, like, the antidote for procrastination, you know, and help people get into action and then also connection. So it kind of accomplishes both, which addresses the loneliness epidemic. And then also so many people having their dreams die in the graveyard because, face it, you know, like, even when you're not lonely, you're not isolated and you're in a room of people, sometimes you can feel lonely and isolated if people don't share your goals and your dreams. And so I think the challenges really help people kind of support that idea. So that's one of my big dreams. My other big dream that I cannot wait because I'm already starting it is this, like, auction thing, like understanding. Understanding, like how to help non profits raise money. At the time of this recording, I just did my very first, like, hired auction and raised $20,000. And I was actually looking at it. I raised actually more. It was 22,500. I. I've calculated it wrong and so not that matters, but it was like, so exciting. So I'm like, oh, my gosh.
I even did more. And.
And that was still like under what I wanted. I wanted to raise 50, you know, and so. But it seems like it's great, you know, to people that don't know what my actual goal was, you know, and. But I'm still going to be working with this nonprofit and helping them raise more because I want us. I want to raise more money because it's $50,000 a year for them to have the tools, for them to have this trade school for this community. So anyway, that's one of my dreams is getting really good at this auctioneering thing so I can like, really help people just change the game with their non profits. So, yeah, you guys get to hear it now because maybe by the time you're watching this video, I will have made or made like raised a half million dollars in an hour like my mentor does. That'll be you.
You will get there. Yeah, yeah, you will get there and more than once. Like it. It will. It will become. It will become automatic pilot in your energetics.
I love that. All right, you guys, here we go. We're giving you a nudge. How do you want to word the you? I'll have you word the nudge. You'll. You'll close this out.
The nudge is. What are your dreams? Not one. What? Come up with 50 things. I'm inviting you to consider identifying 50 things that you would like more of or to experience in your life and then let us hear about one of them so that we can help lift it.
So good. I love it. And feel free. Do this nudge however it feels good. You could write it in your journal and just do that. You could do a voice message just for yourself. You could do a video depending on what group you're in. You could go live or be live with other people. And just like, just like we just did. Just let your everything flow out and then you get to pick the one, so. And if you don't know you're 50 yet, just post two. At least it gets it started, so that way people can already be starting to feel it.
And on Tuesday, April 15, at 6pm Mountain time, I will do an hour boot camp on generating 50 or more items for a working list.
Love it. Oh, my gosh. You guys. All right, Mira, thank you so much. This was so much fun doing this with you. I nudge you.
I nudge you. You're being nudged.
So good. Do the thing. Don't wait for opportunity. Create it. Dreamlift your dreams. Is that good?
Be a dream lifter.
Dream letter. Okay, bye, you guys.
