One of the Most Challenging Things I've Done - Live On The Street

A podcast host reroofed their own house despite a fear of heights, using a harness and self-talk to push through. The cost savings motivated them, but the real shift was learning to act despite fear rather than waiting for it to disappear.
Really? Just like, sort of talking to myself gently and kindly and saying, you don't have to do it. You know, like, you can walk away right now and somebody else can do it, and that's okay.
So, yeah, I have a podcast, do the Thing, and it's all about, like, helping people kind of go after the things they want. Like, take a trip to France. Where are you going? I'm going to. Well, we're going to Madrid, but we're on the same flight as you to Paris. Yeah. So I really want to know, like, what's something you've done recently that you're really proud of? Put a roof on my house. It was really hard and really steep, and I'm afraid of heights. So. Wait, you did it yourself? Yeah. Oh, my gosh. Yeah, it was very steep, and, yeah, I was in a harness the whole time, and it saved a lot of money. It was really fun. So cool. How did you. What do you think got you to do it? I think the motivation was, honestly, like, the saving part, like, saving money, because I don't think I would have done it without that. But it ended up being, like, a lot more, you know, like, overcoming fears and stuff like that. And it was still scary, like, every time I got up there because heights are just not a fun thing for me. But, like, it got easier, and, like, slowly you just get used to it. And, like, it just made me realize that, like, fear is something that's sort of, like, it's always going to be there, but it doesn't have to, like, run your life. It doesn't have to decide things for you, you know? Tell me something that you're looking forward to doing, like, now that you've done that, like, what's something you're looking forward to this year that you really want to do? I'm not sure I don't have too many plans for where to go next, but I'm excited to see sort of what happens, because I feel like I have a little bit of a different outlook on life and fear and sort of I feel like the opportunities are more open to me because I'm less afraid or I let fear drive my decisions a lot less so. And what do you think helped you, like, kind of get into that space where you're moving past fear? I think it was all about how you talk to yourself. So, like, every time I would sort of stand in front of the steep roof and think about all the things that could happen if I fell off. Really just, like, sort of talking to myself gently and kindly. And saying you don't have to do it. You know, like you can walk away right now and somebody else can do it and that's okay, but you have to make that decision. That's a big decision to say I'm not going to do it. I'm going to let fear like decide this for me. And every time I'd say no, I'm not going to let this fear make me walk away from this. So it was really, I think it was really just about talking to myself gently but also sort of strongly like, you can do this but it's kind of a big deal if you let this run your life. Yeah. And now that you've like walked through that hard thing, it's almost like everything's open to you. Yeah, exactly. It's like, who knows what's going to happen next. It's all open. So. Yeah. You are amazing. Oh, thank.
You.
