Start A Podcast Mini Workshop

Stacey Lauren walks through starting a podcast from scratch, showing how she's helped people launch shows like Real Life After 70 and Healing Words. She says you can do it in one day with just a phone or computer, and focuses on beating perfectionism and self-doubt rather than technical complexity.

Hi, welcome. I am so excited you're here. If you're new to the do the Thing community, my name is Stacy Lauren and I am the host of the do the Thing podcast and the do the Thing dating experiment. And you could say I'm obsessed with my podcast. And I'm also obsessed with helping people start their own podcasts. I recently helped hundreds of people start podcasts, like Mike Reynolds, who's the host of real life after 70. He gets to talk about getting older and leaving behind whatever's not useful anymore. And then there's Pamela Nichols. She started the podcast Healing Words where she gets to interview authors who have healed as they've been writing the words on the page, and she gets to talk to them about the process. Vicki Pool, who has the podcast Today's Dream, Tomorrow's Reality. Her podcast is all about embracing our mosaic life and so many, so many more. And you know what's happened through this process of being able to help people start their podcast is I've learned how to do it quicker and quicker each time. After learning everything I needed to learn during that, I was able to help people start their podcast in one day. You are getting the benefit of the wisdom of me seeing what's the best way to help someone start their podcast. Helping you get through self doubt, perfectionism, imposter syndrome comparison. I figured out the ways to get you to push forward through whatever might be coming up for you. And if you came here and you don't even know if you want to start a podcast, that's fine too, because you know what? I think everyone should start a podcast because you don't know if you're going to like it unless you actually do it. And there's no risk to starting a podcast. You could do 10 episodes and decide you don't want to do it anymore. And that's the beautiful thing. So this is for you if you want to just meet new people and step outside your comfort zone, or if you want the ultimate personal growth experiment for your life, because that's what a podcast does. Or if you want to connect to people in a deeper way or having it be a platform for your business or your life. I actually even think people should use a podcast like we use social media for a lot of times we're typing things or showing pictures, but our voice, that's the best thing at all to be able to use. And I'm going to be able to show you this without having any fancy tech. All you need is a computer. And technically I can also help you do it. If you just have your phone, you're not going to need anything fancy to get your podcast started. So if you're shy and introverted and you have trouble speaking up for the things you want, you're in the right place. If you're a thought leader wanting to expand your impact, you're also in the right place. Or if you've ever dreamed of writing a book and you want to have a platform to help you get the thoughts out of your head, this is also the place for you. If you have a business and you want to be able to promote your business, this is also for you. If you like to go out and meet people and you want to have a really cool business card, a podcast is an amazing thing because you know what happens when you tell someone you want to interview them on your podcast. Most of the times they say yes. It's a great way to be able to have a follow up for people that you meet. I implement the do the thing formula and I also like to use three simple words to help you shake up your mind and be able to take action quickly and that's what will get you the results that you want. The three words are I dare you, I'll be giving you dares and each dare will be a micro dare. But it's going to compound. We have a really active, vibrant community where we're all here helping and supporting each other do the things we want and I can't wait for you to see all the benefits of starting a podcast will have for you. I'm really looking forward to doing this with you and do the thing. Don't wait for opportunity. Create it. See you soon.
