This is a YouTube video titled "A new perspective on leadership #leadership #shorts" containing a monologue or talk about leadership concepts, using the analogy of a parent teaching a child to ride a bicycle to illustrate the idea of guiding rather than driving. The content was created in January 2025 and focuses on leadership philosophy.
You see it on social media all the time. There's these different pictures or memes about leadership. And in one meme, you've got the Pharaoh that's sitting in his chariot and he's whipping. Bam. I'm telling you what to do. I'm telling you what to do. And then on the other side, you've got the leader out front saying, you know, come this way. But that's not actually the right thing of leadership either. So it's. I. I've now started to look at it like a parent teaching a child to ride a bicycle. Think about that for a second. Who's doing all the work? The child. The child's always doing the pedaling. It's just that the parents kind of playing coach first, guiding them by holding onto the seat for a second, and the child's sitting there doing all the work, doing all the work. They're gaining the confidence. They're gaining the confidence. And then the parent lets go, and then the child looks around, goes, oh, crap, and then falls and they get a couple of bruises. But they got the confidence that, hey, I can actually do this thing. That, to me, is guide, not drive. I don't think either one of those other two pictures, and they're used all the time for leadership. I think they're wrong. I don't think they're the whole essence of what real leadership is.
