Speaker interrogates what "purpose" means in organizational settings, warning that some leaders present a mission as the organization’s while actually pursuing personal goals. The chunk highlights a common pitfall—leaders whose mission is their own (e.g., to get a bonus)—and cautions that this misalignment can manipulate employees and damage authentic purpose.
When you hear the term purpose, what do you, what do you hear? What comes to mind when. When I say purpose? These people are really articulate at articulate about getting people to buy into the bigger picture of what you're trying to do, regardless of what it is. I'm not going to judge what, what the, what the mission or purpose or goal of your organization is, but they do this really well. The problem is sometimes their mission is their own. This is the hang up with this one. Right. It's not the organization's mission, which I want to guide you to. It becomes my mission. Which is what? To get my bonus, which is what I'm doing at this point, which is inherently. Is there anything wrong with that? Not really. But if we're doing it just for ourselves, what are we doing? We're manipulating again, right? So we have to be careful at each of these levels. We can really screw it up. We could get manipulated. They ultimately can get manipulated.
