This is a YouTube video titled "Notes from the Field - The Power of 'Yet'" created in February 2024. The content features a dialogue between two speakers discussing leadership challenges and the importance of adopting a growth mindset through the use of the word "yet" to encourage persistence and positive change within teams.
I've tried your advice but it just hasn't worked. I've taken your approach and it hasn't given me the result. If you're a leader, you've heard comments like that back from your team. Last week I was asked by a client of mine to listen in to a one on one between her and one of her team members. Yeah, I get it. A little unorthodox, but she and her team member knew that I was going to be their video off to listen in on the relationship, the dialogue between the two because this team member was having some challenges.
There was a lot of I haven't.
I can't, this hasn't worked. That hasn't worked.
And there was no doubt that there was this mindset thing and it's about.
One specific powerful word and that's yet.
That we need to train our teams.
On to shift their mindset.
I tried that advice and it hasn't.
Worked and I interjected yet.
See, often we let our teams get away with, hey, we tried that once as a company and it didn't work yet. It's a different mindset to think about trying and trying again until it actually gets the result or at least give it enough tries to see if that's the path that we should be taking and we don't give it enough time to actually take take. It creates this mindset in the team member that they're kind of validated in not continuing to try. But as leaders, if we can get our team members to think about that word yet I tried. It hasn't given me the return yet. That is such a powerful word. After three or four times of me interjecting in the context of that conversation the term yet it almost became somewhat silly.
And finally at the end of that.
Conversation, that team member at the, at.
The end said, hey, you know what, this hasn't worked yet, but I'm going to keep going. I get a call from that particular individual saying, you know what? That change in my mind because I was focused on yet has actually resulted in the consistency I needed to achieve the results that I was really looking for. Leaders change the mindset and if you need to change, you do it too. Thanks for watching Notes from the Field.
