This is a YouTube video titled "One of the Biggest Lessons Learned? Accountability" containing a monologue or talk by a single speaker discussing leadership lessons, specifically about the ineffectiveness of forcing people to perform and the importance of creating a motivating environment. The content was created in May 2025.
There's a thousand things that I've learned on what not to do as a leader, but one of the biggest things is you can't force people to do things. You can do that for just a minute while you're in front of them. But what happens as a leader when you turn your back? As leaders, we have got to create an environment through guiding people to get them to actually want to do the role. If they're doing it out of fear, if they're doing whatever they're doing because you're standing over them, that's ineffective. And I learned that a long time ago. I thought driving them to perform was the thing a leader had to do, that accountability, pushing them was the thing to do. And boy, did I realize, luckily, about 15 or 18 years ago, that that's actually not the case.
