The Alignment Audit

A leadership talk on testing whether your team is actually aligned or just nodding along. Five questions reveal if people understand the mission, trust the direction, and will push back when needed.
Although it always sounds like it, alignment isn't just a buzzword. It's a leadership necessity. There's too many leadership teams appear aligned on the surface with strategy decks, vision statements and all kinds of regular meetings. But the reality is beneath all that, they often operate in silos, misfiring on priorities and lacking true cohesion of the team. If we're going to look at real alignment, we need to ask ourselves five critical question Question number one Are the priorities shared or are they siloed? Do your teams understand the company's top goals and how their work actually connects to those goals, or is it each department chasing its own agenda? Question number two Are the expectations that you have clear or are they assumed? Are the roles your timelines and the ownership explicitly define or do leave people left guessing who's responsible? Question number three Are your managers coaching or are they controlling? Are they actually empowering their teams or do they always step in and take over? Question number four Are decisions consistent or are decisions reactive? In other words, is there a clear shared understanding of how the decisions are made or does it really depend on who's actually in the room? And last but not least, question number five. Does feedback in your organization actually happen or is it getting avoided? Is there a culture of real time, honest conversations that leads to building trust, or is it feedback limited to this one time a year? Formal review look, if the answer to even two of these is not really, the effects are probably already showing within your organization. Missed goals, low morale, and probably highly disengaged talent. And look, the solution isn't more meetings. It's building leadership habits that fosters this idea of clarity, trust and leading to momentum. That's what drives both culture and your business forward. So here's the question. How would your team score you on this alignment audit?
