This is a YouTube video titled "The Motivation Myth #leadership #shorts" created in November 2024. It features a single speaker discussing leadership concepts, specifically challenging the common idea of motivation by explaining that discipline is what gets people started and motivation helps them continue. The content focuses on motivating teams and leadership strategies.
As leaders, we're always thinking about ways to motivate our teams. You've done it. I've done it. But here's the thing. I think motivation is actually a myth. Motivation is temporary. How many times have we thought, man, I just want to get some motivation to start my new workout routine, to do that next thing I was asked to do at the office. See, here's what we've got wrong. Motivation isn't what gets us started. Motivation is what keeps us going. See, doing the work and showing progress creates the motivation to continue, but yet we constantly look for motivation to get started. Discipline gets us started. Motivation gets us to continue. As leaders, what we need to teach our teams is discipline to get started. Show them that progress keeps us going. This is what's called the motivation myth.
