This is a YouTube video titled "Why Do High Performers sometimes Struggle in Leadership" containing a monologue or talk from May 9, 2025, discussing common reasons why high-performing individuals may fail when promoted to leadership roles, emphasizing the need for direction and training in leadership skills.
You know, we've all seen it happen. I've done it. You've done it. As a leader, you take one of your best performers and you put him into a leadership role, two things happen and why that doesn't work out. Number one, they may be wired to be more focused on production than on helping teams achieve results. That's just a natural wiring. It doesn't make people look bad or good. But it's something that we have to consider. The second reason why so many of these high performers fail in leadership is they're not given any direction on how to lead. We assume because they're great performers, they'll make great leaders. But that couldn't be further from the truth. Without direction, without training, without being able to flex that muscle of leadership, not knowing how, you'll never get that individual to be a great leader.
