Stop asking if you should gamble. Ask what you're trying not to feel instead. Name the feeling, accept it, then find something else to do. Emotional awareness weakens the impulse.

Don't ask, "Should I gamble?" Ask instead, "What am I trying not to feel right now?" For example, if it's boredom, you can name that feeling, accept that it's there right now, and gently ask yourself if there's anything you can do to address it right now. Because when you identify it, the urge loses some of its grip. You're no longer acting on autopilot.
