I haven't talked yet about preparing for the third type, and that is your dissertation. Well, this is a great type of comprehensive exam in my mind because I see too many people get done with their classes, then do a comprehensive exam which has nothing to do with their research. So they've taken 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 months of time to get ready for that. Now they have to come off of that time commitment and stress and get ready for their dissertation and even decide what the idea is. But if I can take that 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 months and be working on my dissertation idea, that puts me so much further ahead than the person who is doing the traditional comprehensive exam. So it's just getting my introduction. What's the literature? What's my gap in the literature? I come up with a problem and a purpose and some research questions and how I'm going to do it. And this is going to be incredibly helpful for you on your dissertation, but also in finishing faster.
