Doctoral comprehensive exams come in three main formats: take-home exams where you have weeks to write answers, a dissertation prospectus that your committee reviews, and oral exams that often follow the written parts. The speaker helps students prepare for these.
Another type of comprehensive exam is where you are given questions ahead of time and you get a time period, let's say 3 weeks, to come up with the appropriate answers for these questions. A third type is, hey, let's put together your dissertation prospectus or even proposal. Let's get your dissertation idea fleshed out and then the committee will look at that and see, are you ready to move forward? So those are the 3 basic types. Sometimes also they can be followed by an oral component. I've I've also worked with a number of people to prepare for their comprehensive exams.
