Students chase perfection instead of asking their committee what they actually want. Endless rewriting wastes time and misses the point: submit when it's good enough, get feedback, and move on.
What's the biggest mistake students make before submitting their dissertation? Perfection. They're looking for perfection. And first of all, I don't know what perfection is, other than me. Second of all, you aren't the keeper of perfection. It's your committee. So people write and write and write and rewrite and rewrite and rewrite and sweat and worry. And, you know, they may be going in a complete different direction than your committee wants. So give it to the committee when it's good enough, and then if there's tweaks being needed, great. That's going to be a lot faster.
