A man who left industry for graduate school explains why he chose a PhD over returning to work. Only 2% of people hold one. He now has a rewarding career, a fulfilling personal life, and travels with his family.
And why do you do it? That's why you always want to remember your ultimate goal. If it were easy, we wouldn't have just 2% of the population with a doctorate. Is it worth it? Let's hope so. I had worked in the real world, went back to graduate school, got into a Ph.D. program, and I was in a master's program and decided I don't want to go back to the real world. I want to do what they're doing up there. And I did it. And I was allowed to have a great life and a great career and also do a bunch of traveling with my family.
