Your dissertation chair won't read past the first paragraph if you don't indent it. Most style manuals require first-paragraph indentation, and some chairs reject drafts outright for this basic formatting error. Clean formatting matters more than you think.
When you're sending material to your chair, make sure it's as clean as possible. You don't want them to find the first paragraph not indented, because almost every manual of style says indent the first paragraph. There are some people, when they reach an issue, they send it back saying that it's not indented, I'm not going to read anymore. So you want to avoid as much of that so that they'll actually get to reading your document. Drop the word "help" in the comments, and I'll send you the link for our free dissertation help community.
